Filling out and returning this Questionnaire will help me to get to know you. This is a very important part in adopting an Alaskan Klee Kai. As a breeder of this wonderful and adorable breed of 'little Huskies', it is important to me that you get the puppy/dog that you want and will fit into your loving household.

NAME.....................................................

ADDRESS..............................................

..............................................................

PHONE...................................................

CELL PHONE........................................

E-MAIL....................................................

1) How did you hear about AKK?

...............................................................

2) What breeds have you ever owned?
2a) Have you ever owned an Alaskan Klee Kai?
...............................................................

3) Do you own dogs now? ................

If 'yes', how many and what breeds?

..............................................................

4) What happened to the dogs you no longer own?

..............................................................

5) Which breeds did you own that were not what you expected?

...........................................................

6) Which breeds were you happy with?

............................................................
(Not every breed fits the owner's lifestyle or personality. Although the Alaskan Klee Kai looks like a Husky, it's temperament can sometimes be different. It is a small dog and does have some small dog traits. Also, the AKK normally sheds it's coat twice a year)

7) If you have children, what are their ages?

.......................................................

8) Have your children, or will your children, be trained on the proper treatment of a pet?

........................................................

9) What will the primary quarters be for your Alaskan Klee Kai? A crate for training is recommended. The dog will use it later as it's little hideaway.

.........................................................

10) The Alaskan Klee Kai is an agile and intelligent dog, also can be a digger, runner, climber and jumper. Do you have a securely fenced area for your dog? (Underground electric fencing is not suitable for the AKK. Alternate exercise arrangements can be discussed.)

.........................................................

This little dog can escape through very small spaces. Often the AKK might try to escape to a bit of freedom if the door is left open or when you are leaving the house. They can be very quick to get out, sometimes unnoticed Obedience School is recommended and MAY help to overcome this problem.

11) Would you be willing to take your AKK to Obedience Classes? .....................

12) Would you be willing to take your AKK with you whenever possible? ........................

For the safety of the AKK, it must never be off leash or allowed to run free.

Socialization is an EXTREMELY important factor in raising an AKK puppy. As a breed, there is a tendency toward shyness with strangers so the more intimate contact the puppy has with people outside the family or household, the better. This type of training has to be continued as the puppy grows into adulthood.

13) Would you and your family spend much time with your AKK? ...........................................
13a) Does anyone in the family work from home?__________________
13b) Would there be anyone available to take the puppy outside while he is being housetrained? __________

14) Do you have any interest in breeding your AKK? ............................
or showing your AKK in UKC or ARBA Conformation, Obedience or Agility Competition? ........................

15) Are you, or ever have been, a dog breeder? If so, when and which breeds?
......................................................

16) My puppies primarily go to pet homes and I require that they be spayed or neutered, unless specific arrangements are made otherwise. Are you willing to spay/neuter your AKK puppy?
......................................................

17) I also require that every one of my puppies, excluding white, be registered with UKC. Will you do this?__________

18) Are you interested in only a puppy, or would you take an older dog?

......................................................

The AKK is a good candidate for agility in which a spayed/neutered dog can compete.

18) Why do you feel your home would be a desirable place for an Alaskan Klee Kai?

............................................................

19) The Alaskan Klee Kai community is a friendly group where information is exchanged and owners communicate with each other, as well as the founder, Linda Spurlin.

I require that my puppy/dog owners stay in contact with me. Would you be willing to do this for the lifetime of an Alaskan Klee Kai that you get from me? ...........................

20) As a Breeder of AKK, I am doing my part to maintain the quality of my puppies and the breed, in general. Alaskan Klee Kai is a new and rare breed which is still being monitored.

I would require that you report to me any genetic defects, other health issues, temperament problems that may surface during the life of your AKK. In turn, I would notify the person(s) recording those things. This way we can work together for the good of the breed.

Helping in this area is a requirement. Would you be willing to do this? _________

I also require that you get a Permanent Registration Certifcate from United Kennel Club. Although I have the puppy's UKC number with the Temporary Registration, any puppy from Alyeska must be registered with the new owner. The reason being that if the dog dies, the owner will send the original or a copy of the Permanent Registration to the UKC for their records. Being a new breed, this will help us know the approximate number of living AKK.

21) If you acquire a dog/puppy from Alyeska AKK, this Questionnaire will become part of the Sale Agreement.

22) Please list any questions

Thank you for your interest in Alyeska Alaskan Klee Kai puppies.

A final reminder about getting an AKK from Alyeska..... this must be a FAMILY DECISION; all children must be trained to treat the puppy with respect; the AKK does shed twice a year; it runs when loose; it digs holes; it will try to escape by climbing the fence, digging under the fence or finding a hole in the fence; it can be a very noisy dog when left alone (especially as a puppy). If there is ever a problem with your AKK, it is important to let me know.

If you would like, you may join Alaskan Klee Kai Association of America (AKKAOA) or United Alaskan Klee Kai Association (UAKKA). You need not be an AKK owner to join either AKK club. You might like to look into Alaskan Klee Advocates Yahoo Group. There are other Alaskan Klee Kai Yahoo Groups that you may find informative.
