The New Orleans Men's Center, founded in 1990, is an organization dedicated to developing generative masculinity through personal soul work, education and dialogue. OUR VISION A gathering of men striving to be a community that explores what it means to be a man.

WHO IS A MEMBER OF NOMC? NOMC is made up of men. There is no requirement for membership other than being male.

WHAT TO EXPECT The monthly gatherings have evolved into a loosley defined form. We begin with announcements, followed by drummng and introductions. Next all present are invited to share poetry, and mythopoetic stories or readings. Then time is offered for speaking from the heart. Some topic of interest is then presented usually following the myphopoetic form. Experiential exercise, small and large group experiences, discussion, movement, use of creative medium, and/or any combination of these can be expected. We then divide into several closed groups with one group remaining open as host to men who are not in one of the closed groups. (As NOMC has grown, closed groups, known as clans, have formed to facilitate trust and intimacy among members).

DRUMMNG We begin our gatherings by drumming as a way to create "ritual space", create group cohesion, and/or have fun. Most of us have found drumming stimulating, and enegrzing.

MYTHOPOETIC This term refers to the use of story telling, poetry and mythology to explore topics of interest and promote masculine awareness and healing. Robert Bly, Michael Meade and James Hillman are among the men considered the founders of "Mythopoetic Men's Movement".
