AMA and FAI CLPA will have precision standards in the future. The geometrically correct shapes on the large stunt sphere were used by the late former national champion, Bob Baron and associates, to develop the world's first geometrically accurate computer program for the CLPA pattern.

One of these airplanes did not demonstrate book-pattern flying perfomance on video tape. The small "Cost Effective Flyer" airplane in my left hand is still being used for flight training even with the children of the parents I taught to fly when they were kids.

Subject: STUNT SUCCESS!!!

By modifying a stock prop to look a lot like an "APC" prop the airplane on the web [the scaled down FA in the big picture above] that would not demonstrate a book-corner on video tape before, now corners as well or better than anything I have ever flown! What really blew my mind was not only the great additional turning performance but also the increased level flight speed and very steady engine speed through maneuvers. On top [of] all this, my sound level meter showed no higher sound power even though the ground rpm is 2,000 rpm higher [than the stock gray prop] with very little rpm increase as the ship becomes airborne.

With the development of this propeller technology I see some really neat new modeling promoting possibilities. Although I also enjoy flying larger planes and will recommend that most people fly larger machines, my passion for high performance ultimate socially responsible airplanes (around 10 foot pounds of kinetic energy) that work so well with kids and in very small spaces, makes my now killer .010 stunters my weapons of choice in the war for modeling supremacy!

An IRRESISTIBLE presentation consisting of a demonstration full stunt pattern with an engine powered stunter and then flying a full pattern with a UFF can't fail to sell UFF plans!!!

My latest customer was a Russian who just happened to be driving by my small back yard flying site (40 feet from my roof to the power lines) who stopped to see what the noise was all about. Having flown diesel powered airplanes in Russia he found the .010 stunter to be very interesting. He did not know that a whip-stunter could do what I demonstrated for him. After he flew my UFF a couple of laps and landed, he could not resist buying a set of plans.

THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME

First flights (9/27/02) of the .010 version of this higher aspect ratio wing FA demonstrated its crash survivability. One crash succeeded in breaking a 4 lb. test flying line. At this time I was tuning the plane for whip powered flight which is handy for determining the correct center of gravity.

10/05/02--After having flown a full whip powered pattern both with clay ballast and, after having removed the bolted on tail skid, the main gear, and the prop, I then proceeded to fly my very first full whip powered pattern with a built-up plane using the engine for ballast. After this I added tip drag streamers that were, as it turned out, much too large. I then proceeded to put up demonstration first engine powered flights at a party that ended by demonstrating the planes indestructibility.

10/07/02--My "LITTLEST OJ" flew its very first engine powered full stunt pattern yesterday. I am working on a "LITTLEST OJ" web page:

This new design is the basis for the scaled up "747 Myth Buster" version. Its size and chrome Monokote® covering should make it show up nicely on video.

CONSTRUCTION CONCEPTS OF ULTIMATE, BOOK-PATTERN, REAL CONTROL-LINE PRECISION AEROBATIC AIRPLANE TECHNOLOGY

THE SPECTACULAR, CLOSE-IN FLYING CAPABILITIES OF THIS LIGHT, OPTIMALLY SAFE, LOW KINETIC ENERGY (ACTUALLY LESS THAN THE LETHAL THRESHOLD OF 59 FOOT POUNDS) STUNT TECHNOLOGY FILLS AN EXCITING NEW MODELING PROMOTING NICHE THAT SURELY ENJOYS THE POTENTIAL TO ELEVATE MODELING TO ITS TRUE GREATNESS!

Although developed specifically to improve the objectivity and honesty of CLPA competition as well as for competition once C/L gets over its "growing pains", its primary mission in the present is the promotion of the kind of obvious, open, honest, wholesome modeling philosophy so eloquently stated in TOWER HOBBIES® 1996 catalog on pages 2 & 3, also pages 4 & 5 in its final catalog of the millennium. [I believe that the KEY TO VICTORY for MODELING is in the opening statements: "For most people, the beauty of an airplane's design lies in its lines and curves. For the flier, however, the beauty of a design is in what that design can do." The ultimate blend of flying performance and aesthetics for inspirational and edifying purposes is the driving force behind this modeling promoting approach.]

What we really have here is a revolutionary new R/C modeling promoting technology represented by our latest attempt to outline the fundamental principles of our ultimate, socially responsible, cost effective, world class, real CLPA, virtually indestructible, airplane technology. It represents a quantum leap in modeling promoting pleasure! Because of its unique capability to fly in places and under circumstances that are unflyable for any other type of aircraft while performing spectacular (some say impossible) flying feats, while also providing the flyer with the security of virtual indestructibility over grass areas, as well as the safety of the revolutionary new superior performing nonconductive fishing line control-lines, the modeling world now has within its very grasp something that can surely help it achieve its true awesome rendezvous with destiny!

Like R/C, these real CLPA airplanes perform as "advertised" and are therefore logical tools in the promotion of R/C modeling [I really do appreciate the refreshing honesty of most R/C'ers--I have faith that C/l'ers will come around though, when the PRICE IS RIGHT!] The two most refined and useful modeling promoting designs in this presentation were both designed by my very dear friend popularly known as, "WILDBILL" NETZEBAND, who was recently inducted into the Academy of Model Aeronautics Hall of Fame. His legendary FIERCE ARROW is my favorite airplane for CLPA. The flat slab wing "ULTIMATE FRUGAL FLYER" airplane can literally be made from one sheet of 1/8" x 3" x 36" balsa. The original version of this bird was designed by Bill as a result of our efforts to come up with a stunter requiring the least amount of wood and parts – his design made all of my flat wing ships obsolete!

In an effort to keep everything as simple as possible, my flat wing "LITTLEST KAMIKAZE" was chosen to be the very first airplane in history to record 7 foot corners on video tape while flying a full pattern on its 25 foot lines. The whip powered versions of this beast are my ultimate convenient "VERY SMALL SPACE" modeling promoting aircraft. I have labeled the parts A, B, C, etc. to "help" those who say this technology is too "complicated."

The .010 powered "N-94" (Netzeband's 1994 - in honor of his "politically incorrect" 1994 article in FLYING MODELS magazine that reveals ominous parallels between "CLPA" and "Orwell's 1984") and the "MP-707" (Modeling Promoting, 707 square inches of wing area) FA's were designed from data I received from Bill over the phone. These variants proved his theory that less disturbed wing wash area in front of the elevator provides greater efficiency. Our latest refined "Reality Check" technology requires an elevator trim tab and less engine upthrust in clockwise flight than the original variants, but is otherwise very similar to "Wild Bill's centralized elevator FA machinery". Preliminary tests suggest that "Reality Check" technology might be capable of better maneuverability at higher wing loadings than previous designs when flying at higher power to weight ratios. This is an exciting realm of the unknown that must be explored at all costs!!!

The 360 square inch wing "Magnum Reality Check" BIG MIG/Tee Dee powered version is expected to be able to out perform anything under any competition conditions and is probably the smallest practical size stunter for most people.
