His wife at the time, tested one out on his head when he came home snookered one evening and it didn't break! The Vase didn't either!! |

This photo was taken by me of Hanke on that trip to the glass factories( you have the one Hanke took of me). How naive we were expecting the Gondolier to pole us all the way to Morano Island. We were surprised when he threw back a tarp revealing his Johnson outboard motor.

MIKE LOVEALL (67-68) |
| Hey Gerold!!! Here is a picture of me aboard the Willy Boat along with three deck hands who I do not know now. If my memory serves me right, this is the aft twin 5" 50 mount. It was taken either on the way to or from GITMO after our 3 1/2 month yard period at Portsmouth , Va., in the late summer of 1967, and we departed in early November and returned in late Dec. or early Jan. 1968. Some one else might recall the exact dates and the names of the deck hands, or possibly gunners mates getting the mount ready to paint. I was getting ready to go below for my watch when the picture was taken by a friend. I served aboard from Feb, 1967 to June 1968, she had just returned from a RED SEA PATROL when I reported aboard. Our Chief was Senior Chief Alexander, who was always sea sick while we were at sea, about the only time we saw him was at GQ or during sea trials or competitive trials. When I got out and went home in June , she was going to the yards at Portsmouth , Va. to be fitted for 50 cal. and 30 cal. machine guns for a tour in Viet Nam. Yours Truly MM3 Mike Loveall ps: I am going to try and make it to this years reunion |
