RADM LESLIE J. O'BRIEN WAS GUEST SPEAKER |
| Admiral Leslie J. O'Brien was our after dinner speaker at the 2003 Reunion in Savannah, Georgia. "Obie" was commanding officer of the Wilson in 1952. A later command was the Willard Keith, DD775. The Keith stood by during the attempt to save the floundering merchant ship Flying Enterprise in the North Sea. Admiral O'Brien is shown telling the shipmates the sea story. "The Saga of the Flying Enterprise". Reutes pictures of the event can be found on the internet. O'Bie went onto be ComServPac before his retirement. Many shipmates at he reunion served with O'Bie, including Al Levine who served under him three times during his naval career. We all appreciated the effort made by the O'Briens to come and visit us in Savannah. The attendance was ove 105 at this reunion. We occupiedover 45 rooms and 99 attendees went on the Riverboat Dinner/Entertainment Cruise on Friday night. The meals wee outstanding examples of southern cooking. (just like when we were on the Wilson). |

| Who says if you go to the reunion you probably won't know anybody. This picture was takenby Al Levine who also served aboard the Wilson at the same time as the other subjects. Hewas the Supply Officer and Bob Leone"s Division Officer. Phil Diloway was Bernie Cadden's Division Officer. Note the bell and plaque in the background. These were new reunion accountrements. The plaque is a replica of the one that was mouted in the midship's passageway denoting the ship's builder, keel layig, launch and commissiioning dates. You probably passed it many times. |
