Contests Jimmy entered his first costume contest in October 1990, on Halloween, It was held at a local Pet store.There were at least 25 animals there in all kinds of costumes...He wore his first clown costume, and I painted his face (with the permission of his Vet). It was a very cold, damp day, but we had to wait around to see who would win, friends were with us. The judging started, they called 3rd place, then 2nd, then they announced "The Clown Jimmy" for 1st place... He got all kinds of prizes. All he wanted, were the treats.. He didn't care about the $50.00 gift certificate at all.... In September ,1995-- Pet Food Giant ran a costume contest, and they notified me that Jimmy won 3rd place with his Superman costume.. Another gift certificate... October,1995--Pet Supplies Plus hosted a Costume Contest, again, I got a phone call that evening, that Jimmy won first prize. Which was a years, supply of dog food, and goodies from the store too... June,1996--He won 1st prize in Best Dressed category at a Pet Fair, he wore his Tuxedo. June,1996--Canine Compaions held a Dogfest, with a contest for best dressed, Jimmy took 1st prize again, with his other tuxedo outfit with a Black and Red cape and of course Top Hat... September,1996--Long Beach held their first "Dogfest" I think almost everyone on L.I. brought their dog to this event, it was held on the Boardwalk, We were in a sea of Rottweillers, guess everyone in Long Beach owned this breed of dog..We found out they were running a contest for "Best Bark". Everyone, urged me to enter him..so we did..Again there were quite a few contestants.. But the boy won with his howl/bark.. Everyone was laughing so hard, because, after they said he won, he still kept barking...LOL Got a whole Basket of Dog Goodies December,1996-- Our L.I. paper, The Pennysaver, rand a contest for Best Dog on Long Island. So I wrote a story about Jimmy and sent it into the paper..Well low and behold, he won this Title. She published the story and a picture of him with his Superman Costume. He still holds the Title, I guess, because she hasn't run another contest since then. So he is "The Best Dog on Long Island" June,1997-- At the Bide-A-Wee Pet Fair, he entered the costume contest as Superdog and won 1st again.. He was up on stage for this one..He really likes to be on stage, so he can see everyone watching him.. October,1997--Walt Whitman Mall, Huntington announced they were holding a Costume contest for Pets. So a very good friend drove us there.. One of the local Shelters also sponsored this event.. They had a Horseshoe type stage about 2 feet off the ground. Yes, you guessed it, as soon as he saw the stage, right up the steps. The Emcee said it's okay, and she took his leash and walked him aroung.. All of a sudden he lets out an AAWOO, we looked, and we saw one person not facing the stage, so we figured he was saying "Hey Pay attention I am here" LOL, There were many animals entered in this, and they gave out a lot of prizes, then they announced, "Best Costume"--"Jimmy the Clown", I thought OK this is good.Then they announced "Grand Prize Winner" "Jimmy the Clown" Then he had to lead the Parade through the Mall as the grand finale, with all the other animals following... These prizes were a Year's supply of Dog Food, dog goodies and $100.00 Gift Certificate from the Mall.. So this concludes the Contest stories Will be doing more stories on different topics, Stay tuned...
