Health
Jimmy has been a very healthy boy, since he has come to me.In March of 1998. I noticed a growth on the bottom of his back foot. I called his Vet and he checked it out..Said it was nothing to worry about..He also diagnosed him with -Degenerative Myelopathy- Not knowing what this was at the time, I said nothing. I told our friend about it that night, and she was very upset. She spoke to me a few days later, and asked if I would consider going to Dr.Wen, as her dog was being treated by him with herbal medication and accupuncture..
I said sure, but I will probably have to wait for an appointment..She then replied, "no you don't I already made one for him" So that following week, we went to Dr. Wen .. He took xrays of Jimmy's spine, and concluded, that he did have Degenerative Myelopathy and arthritis in his spine and a degenerative disc.. So he started him on Chinese herbal medication, that he makes up himself. He also drew blood, to rule out Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever..
On May 5,1998 Dr. Wen removed the tumor from Jimmy's foot.. When the biopsy report came back, Dr. Wen called me and said there were cancerous cells around the tumor..He then suggested his anti cancer medication. and a combination of vitamins, that he had success with.
So, we picked up the medicaiton, and he told me what vitamins he wanted me to give Jimmy.
The anti cancer pill was twice a day..
the other pills he took at this time, are
Cosequin DS, (3 pills a day)
Vitamin E400 I.U.
Vitamin A10,000 I.U.
Vitamin C 1000 mg (twice a day)
Shark Cartilage 1000 mg. (eight pills a day) Arthritis herbal pills (one a day)
Chinese herbs (8 a day)
Anther chinese herb ( 8 a day)
This is always fun trying to see what he will take the pills in.. (Yeah right)
We started off with Cream Cheese, he got tired of that after two days..then on to Liverwurst, and so on and on-- this boy likes variety..
Dr. Wen wanted to see him again in a few months after taking these medications..
On November 14,1998. the Dr. decided it was time to try accupuncture, I agreed with him..My friends and I decided that it would not be good for me to be in the room while he was getting the treatment..So one of them volunteered to stay with him. I waited right outside the door..You see her dog could hardly walk, so when he got his treatments, he just laid there..Not Jimmy he is always on the move..she thought she could hold him..I heard her yell that she needed "Help" I rushed in, and now that I think about it, it was a funny sight...She was all twisted up trying to hold him still, he had the needles in him..She told me to "get out"..So A Vet Tech came in the other door to help her.The treatment takes about 15 minutes.I knew my boy could not stay still this long..But no one believed me...
We scheduled the next appointment for two weeks. When we got there, Dr. Wen said he was not going to do the regular accupuncture as it was too stressful for Jimmy and my friend...
So Jimmy is still being treated with accupuncture and Chinese herbs. And he doesn't know there is a thing wrong with him...He is in no pain..and I believe that, from the way he acts and runs around.. That is one thing he can't stop doing, is runnng..For a dog that is so smart, he just doesn't get the words, Slow Down or Easy or No Running..That's just his way..Got to go everwhere in a hurry..Guess he gets that from me..LOL
Dr.Wen took a Xray of Jimmy's lungs a year after he was on the anti cancer meds and it showed his lungs were clear..So he doesn't have to take those pills anymore..And the Dr. also changed some of the Chinese herbs to his blend of herbs...So as of today, Jimmy only gets 22 pills a day..
Thank God we looked into this type of treatment...
I do believe without these medications and accupuncture, Jimmy would not be here for me to tell his story..
He is very active, gets up on the couch by himself, gets into the car. loves to eat, and is very observant..So his life is still good...Just a little different... I try to get him to rest more, but that too is a joke ....
Now we go for accupuncture every two or three weeks...
Always get a second opnion---And don't hesitate to go to a specialist, for whatever your animals needs are...
