JOSIE and PILOT

OUR BEAUTIFUL GUARDIAN ANGEL BOYS AT THE BRIDGE

JOSIE, "BOXCAR JOSIE"

Josie came to live with us through REGAP of Illinos in January of 1994 after just turning 2 years old. Not working out in either of his first two placements we were drawn together.

Josie is responsible for many other Greyhounds being adopted into "FOREVER" homes. We took him to numerous Meet & Greets where people just had to have a Greyhound after meeting him. We also went to parades, festivals and everywhere he could teach the love of a Greyhound. While out on walks people would stop their cars and come out of their homes to ask about him. He was a greyt "PR" representative for the cause.

In November of 1996 he was first diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. We elected to treat him holistically and miracuously he survived until January 2000.

Even on only three legs he was happy to make his visits to the nursing home. He would brighten the day and encourage the residents there. After his visits stopped, even the Alzheimer patients asked "Where's Josie? Is he coming back again?" He touched and influenced the lives of so many people. . .young and old.

An article about his courageous battle was featured in the Fall '99 issue of Celebrating Greyhounds Magazine.

As a lasting tribute to him, a Greyhound puppy born on the day of his passing was given his name. Josie will never be forgotten by many and so he continues to live on in our hearts!

Your MOM and DAD miss you!!

Please visit our informational website to find out exactly what we did to help Josie and learn more about caring for your beloved friend at The Legacy Josie Left Us

PILOT, "J.D. STONE PILOT"

Dear Pilot finally found his forever home with us in December of 1998 after having a troubled past. Pilot was very frightened and afraid of most things and people. We and Josie taught him not to be afraid of the world and he slowly learned what it was like to be sincerely loved and wanted. He discovered how much fun it really was to run, lounge in the sun or under the shade of a tree. To play with toys and other dogs and people finally knowing that it was "OK". To be fed hardy, healthy meals. To be given treats for just going out and being a good boy. Josie taught him what it was like to savor a pig ear and even an occassional almond cookie.

He became quite a watch dog and would always alert us when something wasn't right. We would hear his sheer scream of delight to greet us upon returning home. His chattering teeth of excitement made him sound like a helicoter. We will forever miss his "OW WOW" when he had to go out.

Just days after his friend Josie left for "the Bridge" he began to show signs of discomfort besides his tremendous grief. We could not imagine that the same horrible disease was going to end his life so quickly.

Pilot came to us frightened of the world and after only 13 months he left us with all the courage we knew he possessed.

We miss you Pi !
