"Columbus Daily Telegram, December 29, 1942, page 2: Morris Langan, 62, Dies After Short Illness Morris S. Langan, 62, Union Pacific employe, died at 5:50 p.m. yesterday at St. Mary's hospital where he had been a patient since November. Prior to that time he had spent two weeks at St. Joseph's hospital in Omaha, and upon arriving home was taken to the local hospital. Death resulted from a heart ailment. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday at St. Bonaventure's church with Rev. John Joseph Brogger officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. Body will lie in state tomorrow afternoon at the Gahan funeral home, and at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, friends of the family will recite the rosary at the funeral home. Mr. Langan was born in County Limerick, Ireland, June 15, 1880, son of Morris and Margaret Langan. At the age of one year he came to the United States with his parents who settled on a farm in Grand Prairie township, where they lived for seven years. Moving to St. Anthony's neighborhood northwest of Platte Center, he resided there until his marriage to Miss Marcella Fitzsimmons, which took place in Platte Center in 1906. In 1924, Mr. Langan moved to Columbus and until the time of his illness worked in the Union Pacific yards. His marriage to Mrs. Elizabeth Dahlberg of Columbus took place in 1938. They have made their home at 3019 Eighteenth street. He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Walter Rice of Lincoln, Mrs. James Elledge and Mrs. Raymond Pereria, both of Hayward, Calif., and Mrs. Robert Gilhart of Oakland, Calif.; three brothers, John Langan of Evanston, Ill., Jerry Langan of Columbus, and Patrick Langan, of Platte Center; two sisters, Mrs. Nell Sullivan and Mrs. W. Dugan, both of Omaha; 19 grandchildren, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Smith of Fremont. A son, Lawrence of Omaha, died three weeks ago." |
