Dogs are not our whole lives but they make our lives whole.

All "my kids" were of the garden variety. No special breeds here. They were all just like me, mutts.

And there won't be any "real" pictures here because these are memories.

Now then, when I was just a pup, there was...

~Dusty~

Dusty was my first. He was a mix (mutt) from a friend in the neighborhood. His dog had pups and she had a fine disposition. She was a Cocker-Spaniel and he was a Cocker-something else. He was the same color as momma dog - buff. He had a nub for a tail and of course, he wagged all over.

Our next door neighbor had a beagle pup about the same age.  Neither dog was allowed to run loose, but they would aggravate each other through the cedar fence.

The beagle would scratch out a small trench under the fence. It wasn't large enough for either to escape. The two dogs would touch noses. They seemed content with that.

When Dusty escaped out into the street, through the gate, and was hit by a car, he died. I think the beagle next door mourned more than I did. They had been buddies and the beagle cried (called) for Dusty for a long time afterward.

Dusty was only with us for maybe for nine months.

Like I said, Dusty was my first pet and after a few years, there was...

~Big Dog~

Don't quit here! After Big Dog has been remembered, there are a few more precious memories. Continue down memory lane.
