BY WAY OF EXPINATION: I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and was exposed to the Anti-War Movement from its earliest beginings at the University of Michigan, home to some "peaceniks and radicals" in the '60s and '70s, and Chapter 1 of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). Anyway, I saw it all; from the first "Teach-in" at the Uof M's Angell Hall, to the Ho Bo Woods, and (back from Nam) to the protest marches over Cambodia. After two years in the U.S. Army, I returned to Ann Arbor from Viet-Nam in April of 1970. Things had changed. "YOU! You NLF-flag-waver, who marched past me near the Arcade on State Street in the Fall of 1970, can thank Larry Elliot for having your teeth today. because I wanted to put the hurt on you – BAD – but Larry restrained me." You were young, idealistic and cynical, and trying to get laid, so I can forgive you for – pardon the pun – waving that red flag in front of my face. At that instant, I just wanted to punch you out. I didn't want to kill you, I'd had enough of killings and deaths, and I too wanted the war to end – ALL WAR. You were smart about some things, but ignorant too. I trust you, old hippie, have taught your children not to get the war mixed up with the warriors, and to be respectfull and nice to other people. – Sarge Holzhauer
