TRIBUTE TO THE LOS ANGELES RAMS

"This is a webpage for the Ramfans that grew up Los Angeles Ram fans.

That lived and died with them in the 70's.

It is an era gone by and great players that were our idols in our youth.

1970's

Dryer,Olsen,Youngblood

The Ram defense from 1973 thru 1979 was the best in the NFL. Virtually no. 1 or 2 in every defensive stat.

Jim Youngblood celebrates playoff win

In 1974, the Rams go 10-4 and in the first round
of the playoffs, beat the Wash. Redskins 19-10.
Minnesota went 10-4 and the Rams beat them in the regular season, the game was played in -13% wind chill Minnesota instead of 70% LA.

Larry Brooks in 1976 playoff game against Dallas

Rams beat the favored Cowboys in a defensive
hard hitting playoff game, 14-12. On 4th and 10
on the Rams 23, Staubach in the shotgun, hit
Billy Joe Dupree exactly 10 yards, when he went
for more, Bill Simpson and Dave Elmendorf level
him in his spot. The referees bring the chain out
and he missed the first by an inch.

Isiah Robertson -12% wind chill

The Rams and Vikings played to a 10-10 tie in
the regular season. The Rams were a 2 point
underdog, but they knew they were better.

Ron Jessie on a flanker reverse clearly is in the
end zone, but, the refs put it on the 6-inch line.

Chuck Knox ill-fated decision

Knox remembered that in the regular season
game the Rams were inside the 1 and couldn't
get it in. So he decides for the FG.

Tom Dempsey block FG

The Vikings Nate Allen blocks it and Bobby
Bryant picks it up for a touchdown. A 14 point
turnaround. The next time the Rams get the
ball the have to punt and it is blocked. Special
teams spot the Vikings a 17-0 lead.

Youngblood and Dryer in 1976 NFC Championship

After the referees and the offense spotted the
Vikings a 17 points lead. The pride of the Ram
defense took over, forcing a turnover

PAT HADEN

The Rams fought back to make 17-13 (dempsey
extra point will hurt) with under 2 minutes to go
we needed a TD instead of a FG to tie.

Ron Jessie beat his man

Because of the extra point miss, the Rams needed
a TD. The Vikings in a deep prevent. Jessie does
a post and beats his man by 10 yards. Haden fires
to Jessie and...........

SAFETY PLAYING CENTER FIELD

The defense of the Rams didn't lose this game,
but the referees blown call and Knox going for
a FG plus the extra point miss by Dempsey did.

MERLIN OLSEN

This picture says it all, Merlin Olsen came so
close to getting to the Super Bowl. In his final
season, in his final game. Getting so close and
having it taken away. The player that is standing
next to him with his hand on his shoulder is

Jim Murray Column the next day

You don't start a poker game by throwing away
a pair of aces in hopes of hooking dueces and
treys. You don't start a golf tournament on a
par 5 hole and pull out a nice 7-iron on the tee.
You don't bunt with bases loaded and two outs.
You don't step back when you got the guy on
the ropes. And you don't start a championship
football game by going for a FG on the 6-inch
line.
The Rams won't be in the Super Bowl again
this year because that's exactly what they did.
The "book" says when you drive to the 6-inch
line, you put points on the board. and the Rams
did, they put 7 on the board for Minnesota.
