1.
I love, working in the gardens,
and in the rain that gets me wet,
just loving every moment,
and each one of you I've met.
(and like my mother said:)
There's so much, we've been given
and much more, we're going to get.
This has been, a wondrous journey,
and, it ain't over yet.
.
2.
Yes, I was, hoeing in the gardens,
when I heard my cell phone ring.
It was my momma calling,
to share what she'd been feeling.
"Son, I've been a thinking,
about my life, and all I've done,
and I'm just feeling, so darn grateful,
for all the years, and all the fun!
.
3.
Mom's struggles began at seventeen,
that's when she, had me, you see.
Hearing her so cheery, about her life,
that was really, a joy, for me.
I said, "Momma I'm real happy,
that you're sharing this with me,
doing right now, the best you can,
and being as thankful, as you can be!"
.
4.
Mom, was born, in an old log cabin,
built close to the Neenah Creek.
We often went to her birthplace,
for Sunday dinners, many a week.
One by one, we left her nest,
and, seven times, she wept, goodbye.
Then, when mom, had time for mom,
mom went out, and learned to drive!
.
5.
Once she had her own car,
she realy drove about.
Sneaking cigarettes with Hattie,
drinking beer, and catching trout.
Or, just to look at changing leaves,
they'd drive up to the northern woods.
All the things, mom, could never do,
now she did them, while she could.
.
6.
If struggles, are like, a chilling rain,
than the good times, are the sun.
So warmed was I, by my momma's words,
that my work, turned into fun.
When I went back, to my weeding,
it was easy, working, with that hoe.
Smiling about my momma's words,
as I hoed, from row to row.
.
7.
Yes, I love, working in the gardens,
and in the rain that gets me wet.
Just loving every moment
and each one of you I've met.
(and, just like my mother said)
There's so much we've been given,
and much more, is coming yet.
