Lady, From The East Side

1.
She drove up from Madison, one cold December day,
as she strolled out on the dance floor, you could hear all the people say,
"There's that lady from the east side, she's got a duplex by the mall,
she drive's a five-speed Honda, and she likes her boyfriends tall.
2.
Now he was just a country boy, in a big white cadillac,
with a trunk full of melons and squash tied up in sacks.
She dressed in gypsy colors, he liked safari slacks,
together they made a rainbow, in his little country shack.
3.
She liked to watch the sunsets, he liked to watch the dawn,
she'd be working in the kitchen, he'd be working on the lawn.
She had lots of brains, he had lots of brawn,
and once the sun went down, well...both of them was.... gone.
4.
Sometimes they dressed to kill,
sometimes they dressed for play,
and sometimes they just.... never dressed ....well...what more can...can I say?
Now, they walk a little slower,
and they don't dance quite so fast.
But their future looks excitin',
if you... happen.... to know their past.
5.
Well, she drove up from Madison, in the evening yesterday.
And as she strolled out on the dance floor
you could hear all the people say,
"There's that lady from the East Side

and she still likes her boyfriends tall."
6.
Well, they dance a little slower.
and they dont walk quite as fast,
but their future...sure looks excitin'
if you... happen... to know their past....
7. (softly, slowly)
Yes, their future sure looks excitin'.
if you happen to know their past.
