"WILL YOU, KISS ME, GOODBYE?"
1.
I was always seen, as strong,
nobody, saw my fears.
But then, I met an angel
who filled my eyes, with tears.
2.
We saw, each other, once a week,
and then, one day, she was gone.
But what I learned, from Millie, is,
that tears, can make you strong.
3.
I walked into, a nursing home
to read, to Millie, who was blind.
No matter, what I read to her
She listened, to each line.
4.
Now, I had been, a scribbling,
for more than fifty years.
So, I shared lots of my writin'
and Millie, was all ears.
5.
She said i was an artist,
she who' read for ninety years.
Her words moved me quite often,
but she never saw, my tears.
6.
Sometimes, feelings, left us speechless,
and no words came, from her, or me.
At times like that, we both would sit,
with eyes, that could not see.
7.
Millie's words, were magic words,
they brought me, the gift of tears.
These sharings with an angel,
who could hear, with angel ears.
8.
Millie shared her soul, with me
and got me to sharin' mine,
and the more she shared,
the more I'd see,
as I became less blind.
9.
One day, when I was leaving,
saying, that I'd be back, next week.
I quietly turned, to leave the room,
when I heard Millie, softly speak:
10.
I might not, be here next week,
I might be, already gone.
I have never, felt more useless,
since the day, that I was born.
11.
Not only, can't I read, no more,
I can't tell, night from day.
I don't even know,
which meal I'm eating,
'Cause I don't know, the time of day.
12.
So, the way that, I've been feeling,
there's no use, in me going on.
I'm really, looking forward to,
the time, when I'll soon be gone.
13.
I said, Millie, I'll be back next week,
and we'll not be apart,
if you're not here, in this room,
you'll be here, in my heart.
14.
She looked at me, with sightless eyes,
and she looked, about to cry.
A tiny, wheel-chaired lady,
sharing why, she'd like to die.
15.
Then came, Millie's invitation,
from this lady, that longed to die.
Her final words, I clearly heard,
"Will you, kiss me, goodbye?"
16.
Well, I have learned, to be, affectionate,
and now, I'm strong, enough, to cry,
and the learning, came so easy, with,
"Will you, kiss me, goodbye?"
17.
Yes, I have learned to be affectionate,
and now, I's strong enough to cry.
And the learning came so easy with,
"Will you, kiss me, goodbye?"
