Hello My Name is Deborah L. D'Ambrosi A.K.A Mrs. Aristotle Linarcos to all my Friends on The Poseidon Adventure Message Boards. This website celebrates the life of actor/director Fred Sadoff. Better known as Linarcos from "The Poseidon Adventure."

Fred Sadoff did'nt get alot of recognition until "The Poseidon Adventure" burst onto the wide screen theaters in 1972. I did'nt get to see the movie until 1974. I've been a huge fan of the movie and Fred Sadoff since then. A very handsome actor and a voice that no one can ever forget. "Your business is to deliver this ship!! Where we want it! When we want it!"
Because of his role in the movie; he became more in demand. So, he, moved to Southern California in the early 70's. But before that he had a stint on Broadway.
He was born in NY on Oct. 21st, 1926, his older brother Robert born in 1921. So Fred was the baby in the family. Their father Henry was born in NY and their mother Bertha Leib in Russia.
Fred was 67 when he passed away from the following illness: HIV Related Infection.
Still he is greatly missed by his fans and especially me. Because he was a very caring man.

Leslie Neilsen (Capt. Harrison) and Fred Sadoff (Linarcos): "Order full ahead Captain!" Photo Courtesy: Jak Castro/20th Century Fox
He worked on Broadway doing summerstock and learned his craft in Manhattan at the Neighborhood Playhouse School with Martha Graham. He worked on the original production of "South Pacific" and "Wish You Were Here." In 1952, Fred appeared in "Viva Zapata!", with Anthony Quinn and Marlon Brando. It was his first movie. He worked as a director at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford-on-Avon in 1958, the first American to work there at that capacity. If you see any of the appearances he's done on shows or movies. You notice his style was to be on film a short time. It was the same with his second movie, "The Quiet American", with Audie Murphy. Fred's character name was Dominquez.
Fred was truly multi-talented and deserves more recognition for all of his hard earned work. A true
professional and a good friend to me. He cofounded the Actor's Studio with Actor Lee Strasberg. Together they taught Method Acting to such luminaries as: Shelley Winters, Tony Franciosa, Marilyn Monroe and Marlon Brando.
He told me his favorite scene in "The Poseidon Adventure" was when Eric Shea comes falling into the Bridge as it 'pitched'. He got a kick out of that.

Sometimes it's tough to lose contact with people you care about. And if anyone in the Los Angeles
area who sees this website can help me locate Fred's family. Or anyone who worked with Fred, I would really appreciate it. I would want them to know that someone out there has not
forgotten him and all the work he has done and that he does have fans. I would love to hear from any of Fred's relatives. With photos of him or any ancedotes. Thank you for your help.
UPDATE: In a recent email of 03/03/06, I was told Robert Sadoff passed away last May. My condolences go to the Sadoff family on your loss.
