THE HISTORY OF THE GARNET & GOLD GUYS

Josh White and Kevin Fulmer were the first guys that you saw at the games that were painted garnet and gold. They lead cheers for the crowd, and became a part of the Seminole game day experience. Not that they meant to:

White and Fulmer met as Freshmen and became instant friends, and rabid FSU fans. They wanted to do something to show their support for the team but didn't exactly know what.
Then for FSU's 1998 home opener against Duke, they decided to do something totally crazy. So they covered themselves with paint and glitter and raced around the stands encouraging the fans to cheer for the team. It was meant to be a one time event, but the fans responded so enthusastically that White and Fulmer turned it into a regular event.
Their unscipted act is now an integural part of the game for many game going fans. They have been to nearly all the home games since the 1998 season and have even been sponsered for many away games, as well as the Fiesta and Sugar Bowls.
They have posed for numerous photos, mostly with children, or other Seminole football fans. And contrary to some people's belief, their game day craziness is not fueled by alcohol. White and Fulmer are devout Christians and ardent members of FSU's Baptist Student Ministry.
Becoming the Garnet and Gold Guys is a little taxing they say. It takes over an hour and a half to apply the water based costume paint and glitter (held in place with hair spray). Then another hour and a half to remove it. Their costume is complimented by dance slippers and a waist cloth.
When Josh White and Kevin Fulmer graduated rather than let the act die and fade into just memories for some lucky game day fans, they decided to pass down their paint and hairspray to two new Garnet and Gold Guys.

FSU'S SECOND GENERATION GARNET & GOLD GUYS:

Scott Wilson replaced Kevin Fulmer as the Garnet Guy, and Ben Morrison replaced Josh White as the Gold Guy.
Scott and Ben were recruited out of the same Baptist Student Ministry that White and Fulmer belonged to.
Wilson and Morrison we delighted to be FSU's next generation Garnet & Gold Guys.
The did not stray much from the original anics, except they did introduce the new "Touchdown Dance" to their routine.
FSU's home opener for 2000 was their debut.
They admitted they were nervous but thrilled to carry on the tradition.

THE SEMINOLE FOOTBALL ULTIMATE FAN SITE WOULD DEARLY LOVE TO FIND A PICTURE OF SCOTT WILSON AND BEN MORRISON AS THE GARNET & GOLD GUYS TO ADD TO THIS SITE.
IF ANY FAN WOULD LIKE TO DONATE A PICTURE OF THEM, PLEASE CONTACT ME.

FSU'S 3rd GENERATION GARNET & GOLD GUYS:

Chris Spear took over as the new Garnet Guy, and Ryan Johns is the new Gold Guy.
Both were again recruited out of the FSU Baptist Student Misistry.
Chris was a marketing major, and Ryan was an accounting major.
During their reign the tradition has quickly endeared it's self to both fans and the university.
They were added as "OFFICIAL" embassadors of FSU to the Homecoming Pow Wow festivities.

FSU'S 4th GENERATION GARNET & GOLD GUYS:

Isaac Miller is the newest and current Garnet Guy, and Matt Swett is the current Gold Guy.
Both are doing their part to carry on the tradition of greatness. And we look forward to seeing them in the upcoming season. Let's all hope there is much to cheer about. Either way, if you are lucky enough to be one of the few that get to see them personally at a game, I know they will make your day a great one weither we are winning or losing.
The Garnet & Gold Guy tradition has grown every year. Thousands of pictures are taken evey game of the G&G Guys by fans and news agencies. As well as frequent television shots and appearences.
But they still pay for most of the expence themselves. And it can get very costly.
The paint they use is a special paint that lets the skin breath and is very expensive. Plus it takes up alot of their personal time as they do many personal apearences as well as the games.

FSU'S 5TH GENERATION GARNET & GOLD GUYS:

FSU has a new Garnet Guy. His name is Sean Wirt. He has taken over for Issac Miller. Matt Swett may also be handing over the paints to another Gold Guy during the off season. There is not much known about Sean as of this writing but I do hope to add more about FSU's newest participant.
I am so happy that this tradition is continuing at FSU. It is so well liked by the fans. I just wish more sites and the university it's self would give them more credit for the fine job they do.
I also wish more fans would donate to the G&G Guy fund. I have been in touch with them and they have stated how much it would be appreciated and needed. If you would like to donate directly to them, I hope to be able to add a link to them to do so in the near future. That way you know for sure your donation is going directly to them.
Please know your help is greatly appreciated by them.

GOD BLESS ALL THE FINE YOUNG MEN WHO HAVE GIVEN SO MUCH TO SO MANY. WE ALL LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE GAMES, AND HOPE YOU WILL ALWAYS BE THERE.
