THE MERCAT

A Myth By TygerStar079

THE MERCAT

A calico cat once mated with a goldfish a long time ago. The result of this mixed mating was a mercat, er, catfish, (grin) which had the head, neck, chest, and front legs of a calico cat, with skin, scales, and calico cat colors of black, orange, and white, cat ears, eyes, nose, and mouth, and also fish gills. The back half of the body was that of a goldfish with fins, scales, gold coloring, and a fish tail instead of a cat's tail. This mercat swam in the ancient sea, but was also able to breathe air and walk on land for limited periods of time. It was a fearsome creature with it's cat's teeth and front claws, plus the cat's personality to growl, hiss, and spit when threatened. But it was also a very beautiful, graceful creature of myth and magic with a melodic purr that sounded like a song. Legend says the mercat, like it's cousin, the mermaid, lived on the rocks near land, charming sailors as they sailed by in their ancient ships. It's purring song was hypnotic and drew many seamen to their death on the rocks and reefs near where it lived. Men longed to catch one, to prove it's existence. But no one ever was able to catch the mercat. It was much too clever for them, and dove deep into the ocean waters whenever they came too close. The myth of the mercat lives on, even today, wherever sailors think they may see one, still haunting the rocks near the beaches of their homelands. It sings it's sweet songs to passersby, much as the sirens sang to the sailors of ancient Greece thousands of years ago.

A CAT POEM
MY CAT MOTHER KEEDIE
by TygerStar079

From out of nowhere one day she came,
She didn't even have a name,
Perched atop my window sill,
She came crying and gave me a thrill,
I fed her and took her into my home,
From that day on, I was never alone,
She gave me her babies, I took them in,
I had her spayed so she could win,
Some relief from the males that were chasing her,
They raped her and bit her and ruffled her fur,
But now at my hearth she happily sits,
Free from hunger and fear with her kits,
Living a life of peace and love,
Never to roam under night skies above,
Never again to be lonely or fear,
She and her babies live with me here,
Bringing me joy and removing each tear,
She's my lovely kitty, I'm glad she came here!
