Oh, Hannah!
Oh, Hannah, how at once your heart
Must have lept for joy
When you first beheld the countenance
Of the answer to prayer, your darling baby boy.
How you wanted every moment possible
With him to spend as you nurtured him at home.
As the happy days slipped quickly by
What was to come was harder and harder to deny.
Once the infant Samuel was weaned,
You knew your promise to the Lord must be kept.
Lovingly you prepared the things Samuel would need.
Your husband did not see when you laid down and wept.
Elkanah was gone to the temple to make the annual sacrifice
For himself, his wives and his children's lives.
Hannah stayed behind to ready herself and garner the last hours with her son.
She would make the journey to the temple with her own sacrifice, her son.
Oh, Hannah! How hard it would have been
Had you not trusted the Lord in full
You knew in your heart the Lord would sustain
As Samuel grew in that holy place so wonderful.
The Lord gave you yet two daughters and three more sons
These, your blessings, for your great faith and belief.
How glorious were the rewards - these precious ones
Their birth told to all those around of the Lord's relief.
Oh, Hannah! Oh, Hannah! Teach us thy great faith.
Oh, Hannah! Thank you for showing us the path.
That we might look beyond childhood, fun and games
To a time when our children will take the reigns.
