Jehu, Jehu!
What do we know of you?
Why did the Lord so choose
Such an one as thyself
To clean up Israel and wipe out evil
Throughout the land with little left?
Jehu! Jehu!
Yea, we know a little of you,
Son of Jehoshaphat, Son of Nimshi.
In Ramothgiliad you were found -
A captain among captains of the army
Already taking charge of responsibility.
There the young prophet sought the future king.
You did not question any of what the young prophet was saying.
Where were you educated Jehu
That you would know so well the whys
Of what the LORD God had said to do?
How did you learn your marksmanship with a bow?
You were a sure shot, that we very well know.
Later we see that you take Jorum with one arrow.
Then you recanted why he was taken
And why Ahaziah was also forsaken.
There, that knowledge of history and God's word again!
You had keen insight through your study and experience,
For you were not fooled by the painted Jezebel.
Not for a moment were you swayed
As she was tossed from the window
To her death before you.
Education again! You wrote letters seeking to find
And wipe out all of evil Ahab's family and friends.
You wrote letters again and brought their downfall.
Using your cunning to smoke out every priest of Baal.
And, too, all the worshipers of Baal; all were slain.
You destroyed Baal out of all Israel.
Jehu! Jehu! You were not perfect.
But, you followed God's directions
Doing what He had told you to.
You never failed to explain the reason
For all that was done
Thus bearing witness for Israel's Holy One.
Yes, now we see why you were the chosen one.
