The Calling of David

David, the Shepherd

Schooled by the Lord
Under a canopy of stars,
Calmed by soft stirrings
Of father Jesse's flocks,
David grew to be as the Lord said:
'A Man after the Lord's own heart'. *

Communing with the Lord
Night after night with sheep
Nestled close, safe under his watchful eye.
Lo, David, willing from his closeness
To the Lord his God, is being prepared.

Thus, Samuel the priest, as the Lord directs,
Has only to find David as the Lord instructs.
The king to be, already full knowing God's ways
Learned while leading sheep 'cross hills and valleys,
In service to his earthly father a pattern for service to His God.

His short stature did conceal
How very tall was he in heart and soul.
Faithful and with a heart filled with God's love
David bows to his calling from above...
Ready from years of closeness in the quiet, night after night,
Living his life fully in God's sight.

*Acts 13:22b I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, who shall fulfill all my will. (The Lord's will.)

Our Quiet Place

We may not be able to find our quiet place under the stars and few of us can lead a flock of sheep across hills and valleys. But, we can find our own quiet place to study the Bible and pray. Wherever that quiet place is for you and me, let us go there now as we study and in prayer talk with the Lord about it and spend much time listening for His voice in answer to our prayers. God bless you...Marjorie
