EMD-General Motors South African (Pty.) Ltd. , a wholly-owned GM subsidiary, was organized in 1974 in respose to South Africa's desire to produce locomotives locally instead of importing from the US. In early 1987, as a result of world disinvestment, GMSA was sold (given away?) to local management, who attempted to continue production as Delta Motor Corp, however after completing one order for 11E-type locos left over from GMSA, the attempt failed and the plant was abandoned. Current status is unclear, but Delta Motor Corp appears to be out of business.
