The official start. This is the base of Crabtree Falls. See the Scouts. See the rain. See the scouts in the rain.

The weather was quickly forgotten with great views like this. There was a lot of water on the entire trip, with the amount of rain that the area had received. This photo is one of the cascades seen while hiking up Crabtree Falls.

The payoff for taking the trails less traveled. Awesome views. The highlights were from the top of Little Rocky Row, Spy Rock, and The Priest (pictured)

WIth views so great, who can resist taking a picture!.....(or a picture of someone taking a picture!) It's all good either way.

A scout take solitude on a rock by a river. This particular afternoon marked the troop going over the halfway point. There were plenty of moments for reflection of the accomplishments of the scouts.

Time for lunch. Just drop it all here. This was a "gap" in the trail, which makes for a good long rest anyway, as it usually means an uphill climb is soon to follow.

A mountain meadow on a sunny day (we did have a couple of them) provides a good spot to sit and look at the mountains yet to climb. This group pictured is our buddies from Florida that have come up to hike with us 3 times since 1999.

Viewing the James River from over 3000 feet. It was all downhill from this point, however. A good place for a replacement kneecap store.

Sunset. Which meant bedtime wasn't far off for the hikers. Camp is set, the sky is red, the forest is silent, and a wet pair of drawers hang to hopefully dry by morning. What could be more beautiful?

The 50 mile backpacking trip is one of three requirements to earn the highly-sought-after troop tri-fecta award. The cycling portion is planned for 2009 and the canoeing for 2010.

Troop 375 is constantly on the go. A high adventure program is built into the troop's yearly activities, which are open to everyone, regardless of age or rank. Equipment and proficiency checks complete the requirements to be able to go on the trips. In addition to the 300 miler patch activities (cycling, backpacking, canoeing), the troop enjoys whitewater rafting, rock climbing, and alpine skiing on a yearly basis, as well as new things thrown into the mix every so often.
