Interested in hearing "Sunflower" and "Surf's Up" the way they were intended to be heard?

For Educational Purposes Only

~~ The DESPER RE-MASTER ~~

If you send me your "Sunflower" and "Surf's Up" CD as proof of ownership, I will make one copy of your CD and return your CD plus the copied CD to you.

The CD you send must be a Capitol (Brother Records) "twofer" #72435-25692-2-9. Other CD's will be return, uncopied.

QUALITY COPY : : The copy will be made using a professional grade CD player with ourboard digital-to-analog four-times oversampling linear converters & seperate anti-jitter filtering. A high-resolution CD burner monitors bit-count to reduce errors to a minumum.

DIMENSION RESTORED : : The playback of your CD will be transferred through the very same physical piece of matrix equipment used during the mixdown of "Sunflower" and "Surf's Up." (This is NOT the 360Surround unit.) Thus, your CD copy will reproduce the spatial impression as it was heard by the producers at the time of mixdown, but unfortunately not released at the time of issue.

CLARITY RENEWED : : The playback of your CD will also be transferred through proprietary equipment of my design that will improve the transient information of leading edge harmonics. This will re-introduce clarity, otherwise lost in the various mastering procedures.

Personal Note

Forty years ago I engineered these two albums using an advanced technique of production. When it came time to release the albums the record company LP cutting engineers were reluctant to issue LP's with the full-dimensional sound encoded within their groves, even though it had been demonstrated to them that such techniques were technically possible. So the two albums were released in normal stereo.

Over the intervening years I have made attempts at getting these albums released as they were intended to be heard, but each time have meant with resistance to changing what the public has grown use to hearing.

I think it is time for those seasoned and dedicated Beach Boy fans of these two great albums to finally have made available to them the ability to hear these albums as they were originally mixed and intended to be heard. By way of the rules of The Home Recording Act of 1992 it is now possible to offer this re-mastered version of these albums as an educational tool for your critique.

Although there have been several re-masterings of these albums since the original LP mastering, none, including the original LP have captured what was heard over the control room monitors, until now. With this re-master, not only are subtleties of sounds brought into the open, but the instrumental and vocal balances become more life-like, leads seem to hang in front of the listener as if in a personal performance, and vocal background performances are revealed in their primary dimension and depth.

I am so certain that you will enjoy this re-mastering of "Sunflower" and "Surf's Up" that I will refund your twenty dollars if you do not find yourself playing this re-mastered version more than all other issues of these albums.

To be up-front with you, I'm going on 64 years old. Although my health is good, I'm still concerned that my work has yet to be represented to the public as it was intended. It's clear that main-stream record distribution channels are not going to publish the dormant sonic potential trapped in the engineering achievements of these productions. In giving this some thought, it seems the best way to save this work is through the fans themselves. It seems you are to be the protectors and providers of these jewels for future generations to hear and enjoy as they were intended to be heard. Without your interest and action they will be lost over time. That would be a tragedy.

When you hear these re-masters for yourselves as fans of The Beach Boys, you will appreciate my sentiments.

Good Listening, ~Stephen W. Desper
