"SVEN LAR -- '1FS' w/ Stand & Tamper
"Had to give this set its due, so felt the extra pictures were necessary. Not only a beautiful big pipe, but a matching briar burl stand and tamper. This is a hefty piece from [Michael] Kabik that has tight straight grain all the way around the bowl, and it flows onto the shank at the perfect angle to compliment the curve. The shape of the shank is particularly interesting with the tapered angled bottom. Stand is specially made for the pipe and fits it like a glove, felt-lined. Tamper has its own nook in the burl too. Great condition, a couple light handling scratches, but nothing outwardly noticeable (would probably buff out, if you wanted them gone). A great set, and very collectible for a long time to come." Maybe I am partially blind but I had to really hunt to find the few light scratches on the pipe. The grain is even more eye-popping when viewed in person ("in pipe"?). Though the pipe had been lightly smoked at some point in its lifetime, the tamper that came with the set has never been used. Michael Kabik has informed me, "The 1FS means you are getting a very high grade single pipe in a base (stand). No matter what name I produced under 'A' was always the least expensive...." This "F" grade pipe certainly shows the quality!
