BARI - Viking |

I won this pipe on eBay. Here is the write-up from the seller.
"This is a gorgeous, large early eighties Bari. The wood grain is wonderful, as seen in the photos. The pipe is stamped 'Bari Viking' and 'Handmade in Denmark.' "This pipe is used, but is in lovely shape, with a great finish. I have found a spot of putty on the bottom of the long shank, but this pipe really smokes like the big, Danish pipe that it is. This was an expensive pipe when new. Get it at a fraction of the cost, plus you don't have to break it in!!!" The pipe is 6 3/8" long and 2" high. |

| I purchased this classy Bjarne from Habana Premium Cigar Shop (http://www.pipesandcigars.com). Similar to that of the Frank Genna #93, I love the grain on this pipe. Along the bottom, the pipe measures 5 15/16" while from the bit to the part of the rim farthest away is 6 1/8". The bowl is 2 3/16" high and also 2 3/16" at the top. The tobacco chamber has a diameter of 7/8" and a depth of 1 7/8". |

| I purchased this very large pipe from Knoxville Cigar & Smoking Pipe Company (http://www.knoxcigar.com - pipes@esper.com). As you can see from the one inch per square grid, the pipe is about 7 1/2" long and 2 1/2" tall. What doesn't show is the 2 1/2" width of the bowl at its widest part and the humongous tobacco chamber within which is 2 1/8" deep and 1 1/8" in diameter! Like the Maxie pipe by Max Becker on my other site (http://community.webtv.net/busisav/UniquePipes) and the Frank Genna #93 on this site, this pipe is designed to guarantee a l-o-n-g relaxing smoke! |
KARL ERIK - SEA SHELL - GRADE EKSTRAVAGANT AFRICA |

This pipe kind of made a circuitous journey to my hands. I had originally written to Karl Erik to be notified the next time he made pipes similar to several models he had already sold. He wrote back and offered this wonderful pipe to me. I loved the exact styling of this one and while I greatly admired the manner of the contrasting smooth and sandblast treatment, I was actually more desirous at that point of having all sandblast or all smooth. So I hestitated awhile before making up my mind. By the time I had finally made up my mind to purchase it, Karl Erik had sold the pipe to Eric Gabriel at a pipe show in Kansas City, USA. I really appreciate Karl Erik's effort as he then contacted Eric and gave him my e-mail address and I then purchased the pipe from him. I would like to say that Eric Gabriel was super to deal with and shipped the pipe both quickly and highly efficiently. Based on this experience, I would highly recommend him and his eBay store: Berricks Briar Pipe Company http://www.stores.ebay.com/brooklinandbritishmodelautoco - e-mail address of gabriel@ocisp.net.
Here are the technical details on the pipe. From end to end, this beautiful pipe measures approximately 8 1/8 inches. The briar itself is 5 3/8 inches at its longest distance and is 2 5/8 inches tall. The widest part across the plateau top is 2 5/16 inches. The tobacco chamber is about 1 15/16 inches deep and 13/16 of an inch in diameter. The nomenclature reads KARL ERIK / HANDMADE DENMARK / EKSTRAVAGANT. When inquiring about the "Africa" designation on the photos Karl Erik sent, he replied, "The Africa pipes are the long ones you can see at my web-shop. These pipes are the ones I call African. The briar comes from Morocco, and the Zerbrano comes from the west coast of Africa." As you can see from the measurements above, this pipe certainly fits the category! By the way, Karl Erik has informed me he has no plans at present to make any more pipes in this style. As of this writing, I see four Sea Shell pipes left on his site and all are quite remarkable! His site address is http://www.karlerikpipes.dk. If you enter "sea shell" in the site's search engine, it will bring up the current Sea Shell pipes being offered. |
KARL ERIK - Sitter - Grade B |

I purchased this pipe directly from Karl Erik Ottendahl (http://www.karlerikpipes.dk - karlerikpipes@get2net.dk). When I saw it on his website I was first impressed with the graceful styling and the aura of luxury emanating from it. But the third picture down showing all that wonderful birdseye briar was what really caught my eye.
The pipe has a "B" grade and according to Karl Erik's site he grades the smooth pipes as follows: Karl Erik Grading A Very good grain. Light orange color B Very good grain with small fills. Brown - orange color C Good grain with small fills. Dark brown - orange color D Mix grain with fills. Black - Red color The nomenclature on the pipe reads KARL ERIK, HANDMADE, DENMARK, B. The pipe weighs 98 grams, measures approximately 6 inches or 148 millimeters from tip to tip. At its widest, the bowl is about 2 and 1/8 inches or around 53 millimeters. The height of the bowl is almost 2 inches or around 51 millimeters. The tobacco chamber is 1 and 11/16 inches or 44 millimeters deep. While these are truly excellent photos, I wanted to conclude this commentary by saying the pipe is even more stunning when viewed "in hand. " |
