BUTZ-CHOQUIN - Cybele Carved |
| According to the write-up on the Allenbeys.com website (http://www.olworld.com), "these pipes have only been available in the US since 1999." As you may have guessed, I purchased this Butz-Choquin from Allenbeys'. Being 5 1/2" long, 1" wide, and 1 3/4" high, this is a bit small by my usual extra-large pipe preferences. Nonetheless, I fell in love with this design when I first saw it advertised in "Pipes and Tobacco" back in 1999. Back then there were three different Cybeles offered and this particular Carved model with strips of wood was not one of them (at least in the ad). Since then numerous versions have been produced. When I spotted the lovely Carved model and at Allenbeys' excellent discounted price, I knew my time to stop looking and start buying had come. I wish I had a top-view photo to supply as the pipe has an interesting bevel that runs from the left of the shank to the center of the rim of the bowl. While you almost see part of it from this photo, a top view would show it much better. |

I purchased this lovely Chacom pipe from Synjeco's Pipe Smoker's Haven (http://www.pipesandtobaccos.com). Here is what the Synjeco site has to say about the pipe: "CHACOM "The 'Bel Epoque' Serie consists in 3 different models, but all presented in the same finish. As the name says, this pipes should remint the 'belle époque' which we can call 'the nice pastime'. No more comment should be given, just have a look... "Code #:CCM071 Shape:Bel Epoque 621 Finish:Gray Weight:63g // 2 7/32 oz Status:SOLD [Hmmm, now I wonder who bought this pipe? ;-)] "Comment:The tobacco chamber measures 20mm in diameter and 47mm in depth."
