A TRIBUTE TO A GREAT HUMAN BEING " The role of the artist is to not only show life as it is, but life as it should be." Harry Belafonte July 23, 2003 As a half- a-century plus fan of Harry Belafonte, singer,actor,civil and human rights activist and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador,I want to try to put together memories of extraordinary moments I and innumerable other fans ( or critics) have experienced in different circumstances and places. It is the first time I am trying to make a webpage, so, please, be patient with me..,and feel free to help me! July 23, 2004 One year ago, I started this page with the hope that it would be another meeting place for fans of my hero. Unfortunately it has not turned out this way, therefore , there are no shared memories. So, I tried to make it , as much as possible, a schedule of events in which he is a leader or participant, and public remarks by or about him. Sadly, there have not been any shows, except for the benefit for the Atlanta Opera last October. I still hope we will have the joy of seeing him again on stage, and I plan to continue this site , in his honor.

Belafonte, known to be a friend of Martin Luther King Jr., said he was told about the decision the day before the funeral, at which he had been scheduled to speak. The King children made the final decision, Belafonte said, but they were " fiercely intimidated by the president's representatives." Belafonte has been a vocal critic of the Bush admiinistration.
