The interviews with The Chicago Tribune and The Chicago Sub Times are too long to quote, but of utmost interest for Belafonte's aficionados is part of what he told the Sun times reporter :" he's heading back in the studio to begin the soundtrack for a documentary on his life, on which he's been working for four years,,," I've interviewed everybody under the sun to get as much context as I can--We have Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela. Things that happened with Dr. King .Lots of my films, lots of my songs. It will come out first as a theatrical release and then go to PBS."

NEWS FROM SARA MANN ( " SKIN TO SKIN" )
Tuesday, April 14, 2009
Sara Mann, who was with " Harry Belafonte and Friemds " tours from 1998 until 2003, is now a back up singer with Billy Ray Cyrus.
She will be on Americnn Idol to-morrow night, Wed. April 15.
She was on Jay Lemo twice( I do not watch late shows) , on LIVE with Regis and Kely in New Orleans and I saw her : for those who saw her on Harry's shows, you should recognize her as she has not changed much.
It's nice to know that she is back with a good show , from the little I saw anf from whar I hear.
At the February AmFAR fashion show in Manhattan, there were lots of pictures of Harry Belafonte, dressed entirely in brown, with many different people. Last week there was a new picture added in first place: 2 people with Natasha Richardson and Harry Belafonte, with title: In memoriam Natasha Richardson.
There was also a picture of" Harry Belafonte and Julie Robinson ", which I had not seen before.

I can't believe I have not touched this site in one month.. True there has not been much to write about recently: most links regarding Harry Belafonte are about musicians who toured with him at one time or another during his long career, and more often than not, the web stops before I get the article...only to start right back on my home page! Howeer ,I receive lots of pictures naming Pamela Belafonte, which is how I have a few news:
On March 4,The Afropop Worldwide 20th Anniversary Wall of Fame Gala took place in New York City.
Lots of pictures of Harry Belafonte and his wife Pamela Belafonte.and Harry with other people, but also several wonderful ones of Angelique Kidjo with her mentor and hero who looked very happy to be among fellow musicians from all over the world. There is a particularly touching snapshot of Harry looking tenderly at his wife( i thikk...all we can see is blond hair facing him, as if they were dancing.)
At the beginning of February , the annual AmFAR annual gala in NYC, at which Liza Minnelli was honored, "young chanteuse Renee Oldstead was a bit tense; That moved Harry Belafonte. He tolld her:' It's good to be nervous. It means you'l gine a great performance."
From Variety, Feb 18, whic I managed to open only 2 days ago.
No news released about the Jackson University Civil Rights conference from Feb.18/21, which Gongressman John Lewis and Harry Belafonte were scheduled to attend.

So many things happened this month that I have not been able to keep up, so I statt to-day by WISHING A HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HARRY BELAFONTE: TO_MORROW SUNDAY MARCH 1st, HE'LL CATCH UP WITH ME AND TURN 82 !
( I scribbled a poem on a piece of paper...I will enter it when I find it ... and have time to try to type /)
.
Last Tuesday night, Harry Belafonte was one of the famous people, along with Maya Angelou and Pete Seeger to eulogize ODETTA, who died on December 2, 2008, at The Riverside Church in Manhattan. Among the many things he said about the singer whom I saw at his concerts and on the TV " An Evening with Belafonte ",( for which he received an Emmy ) he explained that " the paper would not yield, the ink blurred.." when he tried to write notes for his speech, "There is so much empty space since she left us." ( I'll have to find the exact quotation)
He also read a letter from President Bill Clinton.
A few days earlier, he attended the WIU Awards gala at the Pierre Hotel in Manhattan,Thete were nice photos of him and his wife Pamela, as he is one of the patrons of the NYC West Indian University..
During the long week-end of MLKing Jr. holiday and Inauguration day, he seemed to be everywhere...and I did NOT see him( on TV), but my friends did!
The franco-African singer Angelique Kidje wrote a wonderful article for "Le Monde ", titled " J'ai chante pour Obama" ...and still euphoric about seeing her mentor and hero Harry Belafonte several times and talking with him twice, as wll as being the closing singer at The Peace Ball, hosted by Harry Belafonte. .
There were other things I wnnted to relate, but I have great difficulty reading the articles I printed, so I just rely on my memory.

January 17, 2009
In spite of all my good intentions and efforts I have been unable to wish all Belafonte fans a Happy 2009 !
There had not been many news since Dubai International film festival, but these three days, a lot is happening here, so close and yet impossible to go:.all roads are clogged,it's very cold,so I'm just listening to the music, speeches, readings about the historic inauguration of Barack Obama in 2 days...
Among the pre-inaugural outside events, " a march to the African-American Museum led by legendary singer Harry Belafonte", I suppose to-morrow, MLK National Holiday.( I have not seen any date)
Among the many inaugural balls on Tuesday night, the PEACE BALL, hosted by Harry Belafonte at the National Postal Museum.
But, as Harry Belafonte says in the program "this is not a time just to celebrate but also a time when we now have to hold Obama's feet to the fire, to tell him that peace comes in all sorts of forms, not just in the absence of war."
