2008 JOURNEY ~ PADDLE TO COWICHAN, B.C. Canada ~ Native Canoe Journeys of the Pacific NW
TRIBAL JOURNEY 2008 will be hosted by Cowichan Tribes located near Duncan, B.C, Canada, on Vancouver Island, north of Victoria.
80 or more Native traditional ocean-going canoes are anticipated for official arrival on July 28th. Canoe protocol and events will continue to Aug. 1st.
Following this, Cowichan Tribes will host the North American Indigenous games Aug. 2 - 10, 2008 with over 7,000 athletes participating in 16 sports.
Related events and acivities will take place during these times - from July 28 through August 10 - hosted by Cowichan Tribes, with Canoe Entry Ceremonies and Indigenous Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, presentations, sports events, and so much more promising to draw crowds of 30,000 plus in attendance. .
Food service venders and merchant stands will be available for guests' shopping and dining convenience.
Just a note: Generally speaking, for any who are planning more than just day-trips to the events, at the time of this report, all hotels and motels are booked up through mid-August in the surrounding areas. This reporter has found a few Bed and Breakfast locations still available, but those are few and far between. About the closest accommodations were found in Victoria, a couple hours drive away.
