Johns father, Major General Thomas L. Crittenden(1815-1893) was in the Union Army. Thomas L's brother, George, was a Confederate General [Info from the Crittenden Family geneology].

Gomez, Victor Sgt.-Major, 12th Inf. (Indian Wars) at Ft. Apache in 1883 he helped run the telegraph at the fort.

Gorn, John W. Major (WWII). Commanded 2/12th during Battle of the Bulge.

Grafton, Homer E., Co. G 12th Infantry (Philippines). While on sentry duty on July 24th, 1904 he was accused of killing a Philippino. He was found not guilty and released August 25th, 1904. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court.

Gregg, Maxey b.1814 - d.1862 (Mexican War). Major of the 12th U.S. Infantry. During the Civil War he was Colonel 1st Rgt. South Carolina Infantry and promoted to Brigader General C.S.A. He was mortally wounded at Fredericsburg. Died Dec.15, 1862.

Grimm, Warren O. 1Lt., 12th Infantry (WWI era). b.1888 - d.1919. Commissioned at Camp Fremont in January 1918. Lawyer. Killed (as a civilian) by 'Wobblies' at Centralia, WA in 1919.

Halloran, James 12th U.S. Infantry. 2nd Lt. 1 Dec. 1866 (Indian Wars). 1st. Lt. 30 Aug 1871; Captain 16 Oct 1882. Died April 12, 1898.

Haskell, Harry Leland Lt. (Indian Wars) Captain by 1898. b.1840-d.1923. Interned under the name of Henry L. Haskell at San Francisco Natl. Cemetery. Sec 05 Plot 20 Grave 3. He fought Apaches in Arizona, and Nez Perce in Idaho. Geronimo surrendered to Indian Agent Tom Jeffords and Lt. H. L. Haskell (they arrived at Fort Bowie, Arizona on December 29, 1879). Haskell wasin the U.S. Army from 1866 throug 1891.

Rucker, John A. "Tony" Lieut. 12th In. (Indian Wars) in 1878 accidentally drowned (along with Lt. Henley) crossing a rver in White River Canyon, AZ during the Victorio Campaign. He went to rescue Lt. Henley and bothwere drowned [now known as Rucker Canyon]. Rucker was in command of Indian Scouts. Camp Rucker, AZ was named after him.

Stillwell, Joseph "Vinegar Joe" (Philippines) 12th Infantry member in 1912. Gained famous nickname during WWII in the China-Burma Theatre as General 'Vinegar Joe'.

Stinson, Master Sergeant Leo (WWII) E Co. 12th Infantry. Campaigns: Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe and Army of Occupation. Battlefield promotion to Mstr. Sgt., then back to 'Buck' Private for discharge. After VE Day, Leo was awarded The Soldier's Medal for saving a training class from a bad rifle-grenade. [Now lives in Natchitoches, Louisiana]

Welch, 2Lt. John Morgan (WWII) 2nd Bn, 12th Inf Commander of anti-tank platoon. Landed at Utah Beach on D-Day, participated in the liberation of Cherbourg and Paris, fought in the Hurtgen Forset and the Battle of the Bulge. He was surrounded behind enemy lines for five days near Echternach, Luxembourg during the Bulge.

Wells, Perry T/Sgt. Co. A, 12th Infantry (WWII) Platoon under direction of Wells was encircled and captured by Germans at Scheiden, LUX during Battle of the Bulge. [They ran out of ammo, and were throwing rocks.]
