or .... LACONIA .... A DAY'S RUN NORTH! It always amazes me how many Bike Riders and Motorcycle Fans that don't make it North to Laconia each year. Many of those, who do, head up North Friday Night or Saturday Morning, thus making their whole Laconia experience a matter of hours instead of days. The real problem with this is their Laconia Journey becomes a mad rush from their driveway up the hill to Laconia and then a mad rush back down the hill to their driveway again. Therefore the only folks ... these folks ... get to bump tail-lights with are riders who are doing the same thing. To these riders the whole Laconia Motorcycle trip, can be summed up as a mad rush North ... a hot afternoon stuck in traffic ... Bugs, Massive Crowds and perhaps, a Cold Rain on the mad rush back and then toss in the that they may be fate's winner in the great traffic ticket lottery. Why bother? If this is to be your Laconia BIKE WEEK experience .... then that is A good question ... "Why Bother." But, there is another Laconia Bikeweek Experience to be had.

Recently someone in a conversation mentioned where they went for vacation. They said if there were 101 places they could go ... Next time ... that place would be 102. I thought about this? If I had 101 places to choose from, but could choose but one place ... I would choose Laconia Bikeweek ... every time. And I have not missed a Laconia Bikeweek in over 25 years ... even in 2002 when I had a heart attack at Laconia, I did not go home ... I had riding to do ... It was August before they could tie me down and put five by passes in me ... priorities. But why is my Laconia experience so good? First off if you can only go one or two days ... try to avoid the second weekend. The first weekend is mostly just locals and bike riders, folks who have a little business to do or riders who just want to enjoy a motorcycle weekend. There are a lot of things happening the first week end, just at a slower pace with less traffic congestion, Such as Saturday's downtown Vintage Racing Motorcycle Show or Sunday's downtown Vintage Racing ..yes old time street racing. Monday there is Vintage Racing right down at the Louden Track .. so spend the day hanging out in the infield or down in the racing pits.

Tuesday is a catch as catch can day, but there are cookouts and many other events to enjoy. A few churches in the area are holding bbqs etc. Through-out the week the CMA holds a daily coffee house and noon-time and evening 12 step meetings for those who wish attend, they are held at the white church at the back of the Weirs. Wednesday there are Hill climbs held at the Gun Stock Ski Resort in Gilford, Thursday the main race events start over at the Louden Race Track and continue throughout the weekend. Friday ... there is Dirt track racing over at The Rochester Fair Grounds and all through the Second Weekend there are Music Concerts, Open House Motorcycle Dealer Days and Organized Bike Events and Poker Runs. But, if you enjoy people by the thousands, Bikes by the hundreds, Motorcycle product tents by the dozens , Biker Leather goods by the truck loads and trinkets by the tons and of course various lunatics by the droves, then by all means show up the Second Weekend.

This is another great web-site for cross referencing and information gathering. It is loaded with information on bike events and the bike industry in general.
