( LATE SUMMER )

Here it is, late Summer.
You can smell the goldenrod, and sometimes, early in the morning,
woodsmoke from the stove of someone who
thinks 55 degrees isn't
PERfect for sleeping. I spotted bits of color
on some swamp
maples. Lyman's already has signs up for
Pumpkins. Hints of Autumn
already apparent!

Although Fall is my favorite season for
riding, I am not letting these
wonderful late August days go by without
slathering on some sunscreen
and getting out on my Sporty. The sun is still
strong, and it was toasty riding coming home from the Wadsworth Mansion where they had
a late Summer Festival/Multi Concert/Farmer's
market/Craft show going on today. Spur of
the moment thing it was. Let's not work on the spare room (or paint or weed or mow) this morning, lets go for a ride.

Wow ... Didn't know this place existed. Nice ride 68 to 157. Not a long distance by any means, but nice backroads. Drifter and I were flagged in by the parking attendant. Anoter nice thing about motorcycles, we can park in places they wouldn't let cars park.
The lot was full too!

We saw very cool handcrafts, lots of wool
things, and jewelry.
Organic farm goodies abounded, and the last band playing before we left was Dixieland Jazz. Just great!

There's lots of good riding left. Can't wait until the trees are sporting their full Autumn colors. But then again, I love still hearing the cicadas buzzing and the heat of the sun on the back of my neck while the wind cools my face. Since I got such a late start riding this season, I am going to stretch it for all it's worth.

EDITOR'S NOTE:

The prose / poetry above was writen by Lisa aka Spike of the Connecticut XL Riders. It is an excellent word photo that captures the Spirit of the end of Summer. Hopefuly it will be in hard copy by the end of next month, but I thought this poem decried to be shared now. So, I have hung it here on the Roadpoet.

I aslo felt that the photo, ( Back Country Road ) by Kala Shapensteen of Arkansas would go exellent with this piece ... and it does.

Rock on! Peddlar ....
