Murder, She Wrote filmed in Mendocino, California Blair House Architectural Style: Queen Anne/Italianate Builder and Architect: J.D. Johnson Built: 1888 Original Owner: Elisha W. Blair Elisha came from Maine to Mendocino in 1857 and worked in the sawmill for many years before he became a financier. Only one year after he built this beautiful house, he was badly injured on Big River bridge when the team of horses he was driving got spooked and bolted out of control. He was thrown from the carriage and never fully recovered. He died in 1892 at the age of 55 leaving behind his wife Hattie and seven year old daughter Florence. Hattie died in 1915 at Florence's home in Healdsburg. Blair House became famous when it was filmed as Jessica Fletcher's home in the T.V. series Murder She Wrote. Few people realized that Cabot Cove was actually Mendocino. Local businesses became "Cabot Cove" businesses simply by changing the names on the exterior signs. There actually is a Hill House of Mendocino which, of course, was used many times in Murder, She Wrote. In fact, one side of their sign reportedly still says "Hill House of Cabot Cove"! Also, it should come as no surprise that they offer the "Angela Lansbury Suite".
