Jacob lived in Orange-Page County, Virginia as early as 1743.

In August 1783 he sold land to James Breeding that he had inherited from his father.

In 1795 Jacob drowned when his canoe overturned in the the Shenandoah River.

In 1798 his widow and children sold part of his land to his son John Hiestand and John Strickler Jr.

October 13, 1804 they settled his estate and the family moved to Fairfield County, Ohio

Sons John and Samuel were Ministers, and son Joseph a Bishop of the United Brethern Church.
