He was born May 10, 1920 as Darrell Emery Fisher to Elton Fisher and Lula O'Berry Fisher. Due to a mixup on his Birth Certificate the Army listed him as Donald. He joined the Army July 16, 1941, and assigned to the 18th Infantry. Sometime before July, 1942 he came home for a furlough. (My Mother said he had picked me up and threw me in the air and called me toughy). When the furlough was over the whole family went to the train station in Detroit to see him off to go back to his outfit. My sister Norine, who was five at the time, said he teased her while she was jumping up and down trying to talk to him. |
