----
The original Jacob and Catharine Huber farm was 160 acres 1½ miles west of Marengo, Iowa Co. Iowa. It was divided between Catherine Elizabeth (Shedenhelm) Huber and her sister Martha Ellen "Ely" (Shedenhelm) Slaymaker, by their father Henry Shedenhelm. Following re-marriage it became the Umbarger farm.
The Jesse James gang stopped at the farm on their way to the infamous bank robbery at Northfield, Minnesota, resting, feeding and watering their horses, while enjoying a chicken dinner compliments of William and Catherine Umbarger!
