COMPOSITE SQUADRON SIX (VC-6) 'FLEURS' TAIL CODE 'NF' ----------- Origin of Squadron insignia ------------ The article was written by LCDR Frank J. Shaw, VC-6 Flight Officer (He was Maintenance Officer at North Island) "Composite Squadron SIX possesses one of the more interesting squadron insignia seen as a flight jacket patch. Because it deals with heraldry, it is mounted on a shield with a 'fleur-de-lis', or flower of the lily, being a heraldic symbol once carried on a flag to identify the leader of the sixth unit. A stylized triton symbolizes sea power and surrounding these is a large Greek letter OMEGA which, as used by mathematicians, represents 'the ultimate'. Hence - VC-6, the ultimate in sea power."
