CAPE COD TIMES ARTICLE EXCERPTS---AUGUST, 2005 JEAN BOWDEN FILES

"MOTHER FILES NEW COMPLAINT" Cape Cod Times Article, August 2005 by Cynthia McCormick

This article was archived and the link died. Posted below are salient quotes with CIBRA editorial:

Jean Bowden of Cape Cod, Massachusettes has filed "conflict of interest complaints with the [Massachusettes] State Boards of Psychology and Social Work against Susan Thibadeau and Simone Byrne of the May Center."

Parents who have children that have been abused by the professionals and paraprofessionals practicing restraint have only a few avenues for justice. 1) Private lawsuits (expensive--usually too expensive) 2) Professional License Boards that are supposed to be ethical and policing the professions ( are failing and are part of the same system/organizations/institutions that are hurting our kids) 3) The police and the criminal justice system. (Requires lots of physical evidence and is expensive for small community to fight institutions and corporations). In the Cape Cod article Cynthia McCormick writes: "The line between behavioral techniques used to quell violent behavior and the abuse of a vulnerable child can be hard to discern and the police end up relying on the advice of experts. (In Jean Bowden's case, and the basis of her complaint, the same experts that trained and supervised the perpetrator/teacher/therapist of her daughter Abbey were the experts asked for unbiased opinion!!) "It was a conflict of interest for Susan Thibadeau to give any kind of opinion to the police on Abbie....." said Jean Bowden (Cape Cod Times article quote)

"....police found no reason to charge....after consulting with Thibadeau and Byrne, who called the face-down floor restraints "extremely therapeutic." (quote from Cape Cod Times article) ----WHAT WILL THE MASSACHUSETTES BOARDS DECIDE?

A SLAP ON THE WRIST FOR BEHAVIORISTS?

Jean has pictures of little Abbey's wrists being twisted while she writhes in pain. She has PTSD from the restraints. They use Abbey's horrifying floor restraint pictures to demonstate life threatening restraint in seminars of reputable agencies who train in safe emergency restraint and WHAT NOT TO DO. ------ "It wasn't a covert act. It was being videotaped." (Quote from the article)

"EXTREMELY THERAPEUTIC"

MANY OF US are watching the decision of the Massachusettes Boards with GREAT INTEREST. We are discussing CIVIL RIGHTS MARCHES AND PROTESTS.

ARE OUR CHILDREN CATTLE?

First impossible demands, then restraint, then broken arms, then PTSD or Death. Pain-compliance restraints, electric shock, cattle prods, torture.....etc. etc.

"SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURY"

Related Abuse Article----- PA Teacher Accused of Abuse (See CIBRA "Criminal Prosecutions of...." for link to this Times-Tribune article.) This article states "her son, then 10 years old, suffered a broken arm, hair loss, and other injuries" [in the classroom] And "workers in the education field are ...under the state law....are required to report signs of "serious physical injury."...... And, "It was probaby not a reportable offense." [HEAR THAT MOTHERS? THEY THINK IT'S NOT SERIOUS IF THEY BREAK YOUR YOUNG CHILD'S ARM. THAT'S BECAUSE THE EPIDEMIC OF BROKEN ARMS THAT PLAGUE THE DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED ARE THEIR OWN FAULT BECAUSE THEY'RE NON-COMPLIANT. NOTHING SERIOUS THOUGH. ]

SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURY NEEDS REPORTED
