This page is a record of the guitars I have managed to accumulate in the more than thirty-five years since I began playing. Some are valuable. Some are not, but all came to me at a time and place in my musical life that makes them special in some way....

1999 Gibson J-185 12 String

1971 Gibson ES-347

Probably my main electric, my wife's cat Chairman Meow stands guard. BB King's original "Lucielle" was also a black ES-347.

1938 National Style-O

My '38 National is in mint condition. The Blues Museum in Mississippi made an offer to purchase for thirty-five times what I paid for it in a pawn shop many years ago. (Of course I turned it down.) John Hammond borrowed this guitar from me for a performance.

D-40 Guild

Not really valuable, just a nice all-around guitar you don't have to worry about to much while travelling or on a plane, etc.

1934 Gibson Jumbo (replace pic.)

Probably my most valuable guitar, I've turned down many offers. It has been loaned out for recording sessions several times. The finest sounding acoustic guitar I've ever played, I feel priveleged to be its present owner. (In the bckground is my second most valuable possession, an original Salvadore Dali watercolor, "Purgatory 13").

Fender Precision Bass

This guitar was a gift from blues song-writer and bassist, Willie Dixon

My Oldest Guitars

1929 Stromberg-Voisenet Kaybilt
1930 Gibson L-1

The Kaybilt was formerly owned by old-time bluesman Curley Weaver. It was used by him and his friend Buddy Moss to record most of their old 78 rpm records.

This Gibson L-1 is in excellent original condition. Tremendous power from a relatively small body size. Robert Johnson holds an identical 1930 L-1 in his photograph. It's former owner bought it in a San Antonio pawnshop in 1941 and took it overseas during WWII. Probably my "Number 2" acoustic.

1934 Gibson "The Jumbo" is my "main" acoustic guitar.

1949 Gibson J-45

1971 Gibson ES-347
my "main" electric guitar

Un-packed during a "road trip"

Assorted guitars and liquid beverages.......
(what more could you need?)

National Style O 1937-38

........more pictures (and better ones) will be added as I get them. Apologies for the condition of this page. Someday it wll actually be finished!
