Dr Hermes Reviews |
Reviews of the books and stories by Sax Rohmer and Cay Van Ash.
"Imagine a person tall, lean and feline, high-shouldered with a brow like Shakespeare and a face like Satan, a close-shaven skull and long magnetic eyes of the true cat-green.
"Invest him with all the cunning of an entire Eastern race accumulated in one giant intellect, with all the resources of science past and present. Imagine that awful being, and you have a mental picture of Dr Fu Manchu" - Classic prose poetry from Sir Denis Nayland Smith.

ALSO - The great 1940 Republic serial DRUMS OF FU MANCHU, reviewed over on our CLIFFHANGERS page |

After reading so many times how Fu Manchu reminded Petrie or Nayland Smith of the mummified head of the Pharaoh Seti I in the British Museum, I think it's time we check it out.
Actually, Seti would not be a bad choice to model a portrait of Fu Manchu on. The strong chin, the high cheekbones, the prominent nose... but if the mummy opens its lids and has long, burning eyes of the true cat-like green.... I'm going through the door without opening it!
