My Barney Boy

may i pet and pamper you
for tomorrow you turn fifteen
you were so very young when
i brought you home it seemed
you were barely old enough
to be on your own

you are sprawled out
on the foot of the bed
as i am stroking your coat
i do not know at first
that you are sleeping until
i see your paws moving

i wonder what you
are dreaming about my barney boy
spoiled brat baby maybe chasing
a squirrel as he taunts you
from the privacy fence
or could be a giant ham bone
kind of dream i'll never know

one thing i do know is that
i have been truly blessed
to have a dog so loving and true
who tries so hard to please
even though your getting old
i love you even more so i
wouldn't trade you for
any amount of gold

In Loving Memory Of "Barney Nipper"

Barney born 4-1-89 passed on 6-23-05
Thank you for all the love and joy you brought into our lives. You will be so badly missed. I'm sure Lady and Winston were waiting for you when you reached Heaven's gate. There will always be a special place in my heart where my wonderful memories of you will reside forever more.

Barney has a candle lighted in his memory at the link below.
