Death of Infatuation

By Greygrynn

Infatuation died today
In a hail of bright sunshine
Reality came, white-hot, with a smile

Stones of cold logic crashed ashore, yet Its pleasure remained
Raw-wild

In what should have been
The bitter end
Its arms
Thrust up high
Triumphant

White-cold reason
Cleansed the last remnants
Of a dreamers gold sand lake

It ran toward the gushing stream
Laughing and singing
Skipping like a school boy
Destruction slammed into its lithe lanky frame

As the flesh and bone dissolved
It still smiled serenely
Mouthing silently the words
"Thank You!" with tears of unconstrained joy

To my absolute horror
I saw something not expected
My heart still beating oily smooth
Inside its chest
It was gone

Her smile still remains
Ramming feather hard
To the pit of my soul
