Welcome to

(Mostly from my Anime North home videos)

This cool banner created by Subaru aka Corvette (she appears in the banner ^_^) m(_)m Arigatou!!!

Greetings and hallucinations!

Now you're probably wondering why I named this page with the name you see above. Well, it's simple. One of the ways to get pictures off videotapes (and other video sources) is to use a nifty little device called a Snappy Video snapshot. Sadly, the company that made it went out of business and was bought by another. But Snappy video snapshot devices can still be had. I bought mine in October 2001 for a mere $9.00!

Acknowledgements: These pages wouldn't even exist if it weren't for Tim Park who asked me if I would like a few captures from my Anime North 1997 home video. Everything blossomed from there.
I also want to thank Bruce C. for his help in doing captures from my videos for Anime North years 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001, and to Ganymede for his contribution of the Masquerade video from AN98 and Anime Central 99. (Bruce also did caps of those - he's also got a Snappy. ^_^)

These pages were and are to be the first of my compositing work using multiple video captures. Once I got my own Snappy, it was just a matter of time before I went to an Anime North convention just for getting footage for these composites. I've done dozens from my many tapes of anime as well. ^_^

If you are one of the people in a snappy I have up, PLEASE sign my guestbook! If you are a fan and or an admirer of my work, you also have a reason I want you to sign my guestbook! You'll be able to get in touch with me at last, and if you leave your email address, I can contact you directly if you're nice. ^_^ ALSO: I've considered letting people use my guestbook to ask for a capture of someone I don't have up - if there's a chance I have footage from any of the years of Anime North I've been to, and you can describe what I could look for, I'll try to add it to a new page somewhere... ^_^; If you're using one of my captures, please sign the guestbook telling me where it is. ^_^

A kind note from Heather Chan!

"I had a look at your Anime North pictures and enjoyed remembering my 3 years at AN. Fortunately, there are no embarrasing pictures of me (dressed as Utena last year, or sitting behind a dealer's table while I had the flu in '98 ^^;;;) However, I was very surprised to see a snapshot of my artwork of Shampoo on your '97 collection! I think that was the very first anime fan art I ever did. ^^;;;; It is a good first effort, but I am nontheless a bit embarrased about it!"

Well, I know good fan art when I like it! ^_^

"...I feel honoured that you actually liked my fan art and wanted to share it with your Anime North memories."

That's the main reason I have these pages up. Everyone who discovers their artwork on a webpage they never expected should feel good. I didn't even ask Tim to do that one, but knowing how much he likes Shampoo, I wasn't surprised when it popped up the first time I loaded the page when he completed it.

"You have my permission to use it on your Anime North 97 site and all I ask in return is that you give me (Heather Chan) credit for drawing it and possibly a link back to my website -"

No problem, but really, uh.. that page Tim put up has been up for about 2 years. We had no idea who drew it, so doumo arigatou gozaimasu for speaking up for your creation! It's always nice to have an artist's name to go with artwork. Sort of a form of Word of Mouth advertising, like "Hey, if you think that was good, you should see the OTHER pictures she's created!"

I hope you'll give me a link back! Wow! My first link!

"Anyhow, it is really nice to be able to see Anime North pictures, especially from 1999, since I have no idea when the con committee themselves will ever post their vast collection from last summer."

Thanks for the kind comments, and I love good fan art when I see it!

"Thanks again, and keep up the good work,
-Heather Chan"

Chun Li from Anime North 1997

Tim Park did captures from my Anime North 97 video. He put up a page of the best and I recently brought it back on my own webspace with enhanced versions. I wanted to do a snappy of Kristy as Chun Li. Kawaii!! Our group met her at the steps as we waited in line to go inside!

What's interesting to note is that I finally got my own Snappy video capture device made by Play. While these pages aren't endorsed by them, I hope they don't mind the free publicity. ^_^; This new version of my Chun-Li snappy is what I originally intended to do. There are minor flaws in this effort, and I spent a good 2 hours just getting pieces of it cleaned up. The girl's head was clipped out from another capture that I knew would work. Thank you free-form clipping tool! ^_^

Sailor Saturn from Anime North 97

As I've always guessed, I was the only person at AN97 with a video camera, but for some reason, my friends never did get a very good shot of this girl. Woah, those legs, that costume!

UPDATE: After getting my own Snappy Video Snapshot toy, I went back into my Anime North 1997 video to see if I could improve upon what I was given, and I found it surprising that I could. This jigsaw puzzle Sailor Saturn still has a few minor flaws... It's the result of 18 individual captures. I removed the thing she's holding, and I remove the bit of that one guy who kept moving in front of me while I was trying to videotape this girl. In a way it looks wierd, but in another way it looks nice. You decide. I think it's an improvement. You may not realize what I had to cut and paste from other captures. ^_^;; One thing I had to go back and get after my first session of grabbing pics from my video was a clear shot of her right shoulder.
