About Frank Schwab

I have been a professional tropical fish breeder since 1982. I first became interested in tropical fish in 1970. During the 70's, I was a serious hobbyist, breeding Discus, and many other South American Cichlids. I devoted as much time as I could to the fish, while having a full time job during those years. By 1980,I had many tanks and fish and had to build a room onto the back of my house to put them all in. By 1982, I had left my regular job, and I have been professionally breeding fish and working in the fish business since then.During most of the 1980's, I was raising Discus professionally. I did this until about 1988, when I became a full line wholesaler, buying and reselling all varieties of tropical fish. I did this for about 5 years. It was during this time that I became interested in guppies, as I was importing and selling many different varieties each week. I then started breeding angelfish, which I still do today. But I had been attracted to the guppy. I tried it and found that I liked breeding guppies more than Discus because of the shorter life span, the variety of colors, and how you could get results from your breeding program much quicker. With Discus, some of the fish had to be 18 months old before they would spawn, and it would be another 18 months to see the results of your work. With guppies, you can raise 3 or more generations in a year. I added a second room on to my existing fish room, and soon had it stocked full of guppies. I now breed Guppies , Angelfish and German Rams.I also buy and resell fancy goldfish.
