AKC-registered as Shih Tzu Romeo Blu ("Romeo" ~ Italian for 'pilgrim to Rome'...actually, I chose the name inspired by a lovely dream I had: Beau visited me down from Heaven with his new friend, a blue/white Tzu named Romeo. I brushed their hair until it's time for them to go back to Heaven and my dream faded...)

Romeo celebrating his 1stChristmas birthday (a couple weeks earlier) with a dogbone-shaped cake topped with a "1" candle. I baked the cake and used green food dye for the cream cheese frosting and sprinkled red/green edible confetti surrounded with sugar crystals. Of course, Romeo did not eat the cake! I also brought the beautiful plaid fleece blanket (that he'd like to roll around in) with a matching plaid topknot(!) He was such a good boy during the photo shoot and had a grand ol' time. It was a giggle-fest!

Here's Romeo's right pawprint image (right in the middle above his name)! I used the paw-shaped mold and red dye mixed in silica sand/cement. I purchased the mold from The Lighter Side mail-order catalogue years ago and the mix (with half-off coupon) from Michael's Crafts store. So glad it turned out well (whew)...Romeo had fun!

Beau Memoriam Page -- my 1st Shih Tzu

April 13, 2008...Beau's breeder Debi no longer breeds, so I had to adopt another Tzu baby (or adult, that I was open to) elsewhere. After a long search, I finally found Romeo. I did lots of research and asked lots of questions. I contacted breeders, rescues, and private citizens. After adopting Romeo, I cried for Beau while experiencing the joy of Romeo's company. It almost felt like an overwhelming replacement and like I was starting all over again. Once Romeo moves past the puppy phase and his real personality emerges, I know he'll be a charmer like Beau, especially being a boy. I'm relieved that I waited this long to get a 2nd Shih Tzu. I needed the time to grieve Beau full-time before devoting to a new addition. I'll be updating more stories & pictures as Romeo grows up. He'll be raised the same way I did Beau, including keeping him in full coat. Brandy & Melody, my Persian cats, have accepted Romeo so he hasn't fazed them much. Looking back when I adopted Beau, times were different: I was younger and living in a studio apartment, the Internet was just establishing, and I had only Cleo my late tuxedo cat with me. It felt so long ago (actually 'last century'), and I didn't experience pet death yet so adopting Cleo and then Beau was smooth-sailing. After they both passed away, adopting future new pets became a challenge emotionally. When I adopted Melody a few months after Beau, I had a tough time which took a couple days to recover. However, since it's been over a year after Beau, adopting Romeo hasn't been hard. However, I had the toughest time when Rudy my Persian passed away at 4 years old of a genetic kidney disease (PKD), as it had robbed him of his life so soon. It's also responsible for why I took very long to adopt Romeo, so that I could adopt another healthy Tzu so I don't suffer another early disease heartbreak. I'm forever grateful that Cleo & Beau were healthy and got to live long lives and for me to enjoy their companies that long. Brandy & Melody are of senior ages and doing very well...'til next time.
