Welcome to the GadgetFAQs.com WebTV sample page.

This page was created on WebTV using a Microsoft UltimateTV unit. Below are some sample photographs that were uploaded to this page using the UltimateTV unit:

Sample Photo #1

This photograph is a still taken from video shot while hiking in Pennsylvania. It was shot using a Canon ZR65 MC MiniDV camcorder. The still was saved to an internal memory card and uploaded to this site. It is also possible to capture stills from moving video directly to the web.

Sample Picture #2

This shows the capture screen for the UltimateTV. Here, you can capture images from multiple sources. If the image is already a still, simply choose add to page. There is no need to freeze a still image.

Sample Picture #3

This image shows the front video input jacks on the UltimateTV. These (along with jacks on the rear of the unit) are used to upload images to the Internet. The white feet shown are not part of the unit. They have been added to increase cooling for the unit.

Upgrading Your UltimateTV's hard drive

Step 1: Getting ready to crack open the case.

Power down the unit, unplug it and remove all cables. VERY IMPORTANT: Remove the access card, as shown. Opening the case without doing so may damage the card reader.

Step 2: Diving right in

Remove the two screws on the top rear of the unit that hold the cover in place.

Step 3: Open the cover.

The cover should lift up. Only 3 tabs in the bottom front will be holding it in place. You can fully remove the cover, but....

Step 4: Look out!

...be careful of the connector between the motherboard and the front panel. You can disconnect it, but be sure to note which side goes where so you put it back the right way. You're probably better of leaving it connected.

Step 5: Dissconnecting the drive

Carefully remove the data connector and molex power plu from the drive. They should pull straight out with only a small amount of wiggling.

Step 6: Removing the brain....

Remove the 4 screws holding the old hard drive in place. The drive should slide out. You don't have to remove the bracket to do this. Slide the new drive into the bracket and replace the screws.

A note on jumpers...

Verify the jumper settings of your new drive. Hard drives vary on what their Master/Single settings are. Some require the jumper to be removed, others have an actual Master/Single setting. Use what works for your drive.

Step 7: Getting things running again

Once everything is installed, the cover closed, the cables are hooked up and access card is back in place, turn the unit on. It will report that a software download is needed. Hit okay and watch the little bar. If the system dissconnects, just hit reconnect and it should pick up where it left off.

After the software downloads, you will need to set up your UTV settings again, including dish type, channels, etc.
