Hello all you banjo nuts. Here are some pictures
of some half scale banjos that I made from scratch.I made these because yes, I am a banjo
nut too.

Banjo and Case

This banjo that you are looking at is only a little over 19 inches long.

Sometimes people get as big a kick out of the little case as they do the banjo. I cut up my little brothers old mandolin case to make it, HEE HEE!
Sorry bout that Tim.

After completing the outer shell I got my wife Dianne to sew some red felt to some posterboard that was cut to shape, then just glued it inside the shell. Great job Dee! Sorry bout all those broke needles.

It's Twins!

Two babies snugged up to Mama banjo. They must be hungry!

I think the one on the right favors his Mom.

The first little banjo that I made is the one you see on the left. I used mostly scraps of wood that I had laying around to make the wooden parts. The tone ring in both banjos came from old railroad cabooses. It was the air gauge cover ring that held the glass in the gauges made from old brass. I 've worked for the railroad thirty years.

Banjo #2

I had so much fun with the first banjo I just had to try and make a better one. I never intended for these banjos to play but you can get simple tunes like Fire Ball Mail, or something that only requires using your little finger on the left hand.

Mahogany Resonator

They were alot of work to make but when I go to a festival and someone asked what's in the little case it makes it all worth the work when I open it up. And then It really blows them away when they ask will it play. I usually say play Fire Ball Mail in the key of D. Then as I'm playing I look up and see all smiles of disbelief. This makes it all worth it.

Flying Eagles Pattern

I have been ask many times if I would sell them but I have never really been able to put a price on them. I plan to add more stuff about the construction of them later, such as what a Presto tailpiece looks like layed out on a flat piece of brass before you (CBC) thats Cut Bend Cuss! I would also like to add sound so you can hear what they sound like. But the best way to describe it would be to compare it to : Scruggs sound--( Firecracker going off in a #10 washtub.) Baby banjo_(Cap gun going off in a syrup bucket!!!)
