Restrictions to Participation in Rites of Passage
I. Physical and Emotional Contraindications
Physical: cardiovascular disease, pregnancy, epilepsy, liver disfunction, muscular-skeletal complications
Emotional: addiction, bipolar (manic-depressive) disorder, borderline psychosis, clinical depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic/anxiety disorder, psychosexual disorders, schizophrenia
|
II. Geographical
Rites of Passage are restricted to the following U.S. states: Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oregon.
The use of religious sacrament must comply with state laws.
|
III. Congregational
Rites of Passage must include an appropriate number of guides of both genders within a supportive framework. The personnel required to insure the safety of the participants will vary according to the particular physical characteristics of the guides and the experient.
Experiential work is restricted to one participant--designated as "initiate in training"--until which time the trainee has been ordained upon completion of the death-rebirth process.
The assistant guide has authority to temporarily relieve the primary guide in order to reduce the risks associated with countertransference.
All expenses will be shared exclusively by the experient and the primary guide.
|
IV. Safety
A facility must be constructed to insure the physical safety of the participants and full internalization of the process.
Appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn by supporting personnel to insure protection from injury.
Physical or chemical restraint is prohibited.
All protocol, as set forth in LSD PSYCHOTHERAPY (Grof 1980), must be strictly complied with and in accordance with state laws.
