Six Steps to Forgiveness, by Eve Adam

EVE'S NOTE: I have summarized here a major lesson I have learned through the life experiences of four generations of my family. These four include my grandparents, my parents, me, and my children. I never knew any of my great-grandparents, and my grandchildren will need to draw their own conclusions.

To Forgive Yourself:

ONE: Recognize that you did the best you knew how to do in the circumstances in which you found yourself.

TWO: Recognize that you are the one holding on to the guilt; God has already forgiven you.

THREE: Release the past and live in the present.

To Forgive Others:

ONE: Recognize that they did the best they knew how to do in their state of mind at the time.

TWO: Recognize that when you refuse to forgive, you are hurting yourself more than you are hurting the ones who wronged you.

THREE: Release the others to the natural consequences of their acts and at the same time free yourself to create a better present.
